The Palestinian Authority and the Jewish Holy Sites in the West Bank: Rachel's Tomb as a Test Case
* Rachel's Tomb lies on the northern outskirts of Bethlehem, about 460 meters (about 500 yards) south of the Jerusalem municipal border, and for more than 1,700 years has been identified as the tomb of the matriarch Rachel.
* According to the armistice agreement signed on April 3, 1949, Jordan was to allow Israel "free access to the Holy Places and cultural institutions and use of the cemetery on the Mount of Olives." In practice, Jordan did not allow Jews free access to their holy places, and for 19 years, until 1967, Jews could not go to the Western Wall, Rachel's Tomb, the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, Joseph's Tomb in Shechem (Nablus), or other sites sacred to Jews which remained in Jordanian hands.
* The Gaza-Jericho Agreement signed in May 1994 stated: "The Palestinian Authority shall ensure free access to all holy sites in the Gaza Strip and the Jericho Area." The Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement, signed on the White House lawn on September 28, 1995, dealt with the status of 23 places holy to Jews. The Palestinians promised to assure freedom of access to those places. However, the Palestinians either made access extremely difficult or prevented it entirely.
* In 2000, after hundreds of years of recognizing the site as Rachel's Tomb, Muslims began calling it the "Bilal ibn Rabah mosque" - a name that has since entered the national Palestinian discourse. Israel's experience since the Oslo agreements has shown that the responsibility for Jewish holy sites or the roads leading to them should remain in Israeli hands.

Here is the UNESCO link: Executive Board adopts five decisions concerning UNESCOs work in the occupied Palestinian and Arab Territories
The 185th session of UNESCOs Executive Board today adopted five decisions concerning UNESCOs work in the occupied Palestinian and Arab Territories.
The decisions cover:
The Ascent to the Mughrabi Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem: the Board voted 31 to 5 (17 abstentions) to reaffirm the necessity of Israels cooperation in order to arrange access to the Mughrabi Ascent site for Jordanian and Waqf experts and that no measures should be taken which will affect the authenticity and integrity of the site, in accordance with the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Hague Convention for the protection of Cultural property in the Event of Armed Conflict.
Jerusalems cultural heritage: The Board voted 34 to 1 (19 abstentions) to reaffirm the religious significance of the Old City of Jerusalem for Muslims, Christians and Jews. The decision expresses deep concern over the ongoing Israeli excavations and archaeological works on Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Old City of Jerusalem, which contradicts UNESCO decisions and conventions and United Nations and Security Council resolutions. It invites the Director-General to appoint experts to be stationed in East Jerusalem to report on all aspects covering the architectural, educational, cultural and demographical situation there. It also invites the Israelis to facilitate the work of the experts in conformity with Israels adherence to UNESCO decisions and conventions.
The Palestinian sites of al-Haram al-Ibrahimi/Tomb of the Patriarchs in al-Khalil/Hebron and the Bilal bin Rabah Mosque/Rachels Tomb in Bethlehem: the Board voted 44 to one (12 abstentions) to reaffirm that the two sites are an integral part of the occupied Palestinian Territories and that any unilateral action by the Israeli authorities is to be considered a violation of international law, the UNESCO Conventions and the United Nations and Security Council resolutions.
Educational and cultural institutions in the Occupied Arab territories: The board voted 41 to one (15 abstentions) expressing its continuing concern about the harmful impact of the separation Wall and other practices on the activities of cultural and educational institutions, as well as obstacles that result which prevent Palestinian school children and students from being an integral part of their social fabric and from exercising their full right to education. The decision calls on the Director-General to continue efforts to preserve the human, social and cultural fabric of the occupied Syrian Golan, and to undertake efforts to offer appropriate curricula and provide more grants and adequate assistance to the education and cultural institutions of the occupied Syrian Golan.
The reconstruction and development of Gaza: The Board voted 41 to one (15 abstentions) on a decision that deplores the continuous blockade on the Gaza Strip, which harmfully affects the free and sustained movement of personnel and humanitarian relief items. The decision called upon the Director-General of UNESCO to continue contributing to the United Nations humanitarian response in Gaza within the Organizations fields of competence.
UNESCOs Executive Board comprises 58 Member States. It meets twice a year to review the implementation of the programme adopted by the General Conference. The 185th session of the Board opened on 5 October and closes today, 21 October.
Easy with the thread spamming, thank you.
This is a sort of comeuppance for those Zionists (both Christian and Jewish) who supported the creation of the UN in the first place as a way to “legitimize” the creation of a State of Israel. Instead of buying, taking, and holding the land as G_d instructed them, they abetted setting up a legal human authority over the entire world, something G_d clearly opposes. The very idea of a “world government” is contrary to liberty and therefore anti-Torah. There was to be no king but Him.
The world is an evil place, and the UN is especially vile. They are systematically trying to destroy Israel, and the Jewish people. They have many allies, including the past several Presidents, who paid lip service to protecting Israel and the heritage of the Jewish people. Might makes right, and their are more MUSLIMS THAN JEWS. That is what this is about, in addition to antisemitism (and oil). The world will not stop until Israel, or some large part of it, is destroyed. Then, there will be hand-wringing for a short while, and it will commence again. Islam is an evil cult that will destroy the planet if given the chance.
Obama was raised Sunni, not Shi'ite.
Her stupid ass parents and insane leftist profs at Evergreen Colllege in Washington are responsible for her death. Let them be so proud of this “honor” instead of her leading a life filled with love and happiness. What a waste.
Well, the Mosque of the Nativity (of the Prophet Isa)
will probably be next.
We all know that Jesus was a prophet of Islam.
LOL !
This brings back a memory of a time. In 1986, the college I went to had their “liberal board”. I posted a sign that said, “Communism is like a cancer that should be treated with radiation”. One girl saw me post it and a friend of mine and I then argued with her. She mentioned that communism was a great system that we should have since it meets basic necessities of life. My friend remarked, “if communism is so wonderful, then why is it impossible to obtain toilet paper” ! It was funny but it really p*ssed her off !
This girl was from Maryland. The ironic thing is a couple of weeks later, Chernobyl happened ! That friend and I talked about it.
> Islam is a cancer upon the world. It must be treated like all cancers. Target high doses of radiation.
I’m sure that girl from Maryland loved Uncle Joe’s slaughter of millions during his reign.
Mosques are the urine on a tree which marks a dogs territory.
