Life, Liberty, Labno

Despite all efforts to convince principled voters that they must sacrifice their own convictions because so few will actually exercise theirs, some will stand up on November 2, 2010. The cynical party apparatus depends on apathy and voter laziness combined with the groupthink they nurture to corral voters into one of two cattle chutes. The arguments have merit, but are not necessarily convincing. The attempts to belittle and insult those who care are not hitting all their targets. Regardless of the efforts of and on behalf of the politically powerful, there is an alternative to the two worthless liberals presented as our only choices for the next United States Senator from the broke state of Illinois.

The Libertarian candidate, Mike Labno, will get my two votes (one for the lame-duck and one for the regular term) because the days of being bullied into voting the wrong way have to end. Oh, I know, the choir of attacks is singing the same old songs. The bass singers accuse Labno supporters of secretly voting for Giannoulias without actually voting for Giannoulias because they are not voting for Kirk like good little Republican sheep. The sopranos chirp that this election is the most important ever... in history... 2008 wasn't, 2006 wasn't, 2004 wasn't... 2012 won't be (until the time comes and of course then, when it suits the party apparatus, it will be.) Such an important election is not the time to stand up for one's beliefs! Never mind that all elections are presented as crucial. The tenors drone that pro-life voters have no options anyway (among the two major candidates) so they should do as the party leaders say and shut up about the barbaric procedure Mark Kirk voted to support. The altos celebrate the magical campaign trail conversion of Cap and Traitor Kirk, who would never (again) vote for such an economy busting, job killing piece of legislation... he's a Republican, don't you know! The choir director scolds that there is no evidence that anyone other than a major party candidate can win, so just go along with the herd, dummy.

Some of us must be tone deaf, as the old tunes fall flat. Sure the noise is annoying, but the brutal reality of the times in which we are living provides a filter. If conditions weren't so dire, the hypocrisy of the party over principle pit bulls might be funny. The refrain, "you hayseed conservatives had your chance in the primaries, now shut up and toe the party line," might have more impact if it weren't for the Murkowskis and Crists of the election cycle. It might also hold water if the candidate who enjoyed the full backing of the powerful in the ridiculously (and conveniently) early primary, was not so reprehensible.

Giannoulias need not be discussed here, because he seems to be such a joke, made in extremely poor taste. Of course, this is Illinois and he might well win and that would be tragic. The problem is that the "solution" being presented as the only alternative is not much, if any, better. As the principles of life and liberty are supposedly more in line with the Republican Party than the obviously anti-life and anti-liberty modern Democrat Party, the focus is on finding an alternative to Mark Kirk. Given the cynical ploy perpetrated by the Illinois Republican Party to ensure that Randy Stufflebeam of the Constitution Party would not be on the ballot, there are two alternatives. One can under-vote and be accosted by an election judge (just doing his assigned job, I fully understand) or one can cast a vote that comports with his conscience.

Mike Labno is the candidate for whom the principled conservative can vote without violating his conscience. If you find yourself opposed to the stabbing in the head of a nearly born baby and having his skull collapsed as a matter of "choice," perhaps Mike Labno is the candidate for you. If you find the federal government to be a bloated mess, both in wasteful spending of money that does not exist and in intruding into local affairs at an ever increasing rate, you might want to consider a vote for Labno.

Mike Labo would not have sponsored "Hate Crime" legislation to make some types of crimes special to pander to certain groups of voters. Murder is murder, rape is rape, assault is assault, Mark Kirk.

Mike Labno would not have voted for Cap and Trade (which Mark Kirk did apparently because the best interest of his district would be served by the further decline of the economy, higher energy prices, higher costs of manufacturing and transporting goods.)

Mike Labno did not release a statement that he would have supported the nomination to the Supreme Court of a person who believes that the federal government can ban books and can dictate the servings of vegetables American citizens are required to eat.

Mike Labno would not have voted against banning the gruesome procedure of partial-birth abortion. One might question what goes through the mind of anyone who is pro-life as they darken the oval next to the name of a man who supports an act against innocent babies that is not appropriate for the most graphic slasher film, let alone as a component of "reproductive health."

While Mark Kirk served his country in the military, it speaks to his character that he has repeatedly felt compelled to lie about his awards and service. Note to Kirk apologists: THIS IS NOT A DENIGRATION OF HIS ACTUAL SERVICE, BUT A REBUKE OF HIS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY AND REPETITIVE LIES.

I believe it is foolish to believe that our federal government can continue on the same path without severe negative consequences. Eventually bills come due. Our generation did not create all the problems, but what kind of people are we if we actively leave the mess for our children? Mark Kirk has been a part of the problem as a typical power-hungry politician. Why wait until these politicians have brought upon our society a devastating crash? Why not start standing up and doing what is right? Voting for the lesser of two evils (and in this case both evils are extreme) while kicking the can down the road to where it will land firmly on the heads of our children or grandchildren seems pretty disgusting.

All that said, feel free to bash away. Comments will be open and your venting is welcome. Just remember that it seems odd to suggest that people of principle should not do the right thing because so many others refuse to.

I couldn't agree more. Tea Party protests were largely triggered when Chicago Mercantile Exchange, CNBC Business News Network editor Rick Santelli proposed holding a "Chicago Tea Party in July" in protest. On the way to Nov Illinois was sacked and denied a Tea Party candidate by big GOP interests. It is now clear that had such a candidate been running and given the resources he or she would be running much better than the liberal Republican Kirk. Sometimes in order to get what you want you have to send the meal back. I urge all principled conservatives to consider Mike Labno. He is the only candidate that is a true fiscal conservative, who is a gun rights advocate, who is prolife, who is a defender of liberty, who is one of us.

Mike Labno has my vote and I am trying to influence everyone I can to vote for him. Rest assured, everyone in my church is very aware of Kirk’s 10 year record in the House, it’s a very conservative church.

That sounds great. It really bothers me that so many conservations have dropped the ball. They will live to regret not doing the right thing when Kirk is the deciding vote on an issue they care about.
I just saw a post by Rosanna Pulido who was the Tea Party GOP candidate who ran for Rahm’s seat who Kirk would not support and the GOP shunned.

“When I get a message from a PRO-LIFE LEADER, Chastising me for voting for a Pro-Life Candidate and she is supporting an ABORTIONIST Candidate Mark Kirk, YOU KNOW AMERICA IS DOOMED!”

There is no excuse. A bad Republican is worse than a bad Democrat because then he can be held up as bat to beat us with. Our goals will me hurt in ways we can not even imagine if Kirk wins this race and he will have more power to guide policy which will not be a good thing.

Thanks for sharing this! Not that I have unrealistic hopes, but the more eyes that see the message, the better.
