Juan Williams and President Obama’s grandmother
Big Bureaucracy ^ | October 21st, 2010 | Ellie Velinska

Posted on 10/21/2010 10:13:12 AM PDT by Big Bureaucracy

'Mom, look: ghosts!' - screamed my little boy when he was four on a playground pointing at few mothers dressed in traditional Islamic outfits.

I guess he will never work for the National Public Radio. NPR fired Juan Williams, liberal journalist and commentator, over the following remark made on O’Reilly Factor:

'I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country, but when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they're identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous'.
The NPR shouldn’t have disowned Juan Williams whose remark fell into the category of President Obama’s grandmother:
'I can no more disown him [Rev. Wright] than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love.'

We should be able to discuss honestly our struggles with stereotypes without being afraid of losing our job. If we keep hiding the truth the solutions for our problems will be based on lies and most likely will not work.

“a person is either able or not able to serve.”

While that may, or may not, be true you are leaving an important distinction out of your consideration. The number one issue that is not being discussed is UNIT COHESION.

What do you think will happen when you spend 8 weeks breaking down young men and the rebuilding them to be violent killing machines, then you force those same people to share a shower head with a homosexual male?

Can you envision the destruction to UNIT COHESION?

‘You also ignored my comment above that unfortunately the military does not get to decide about DADT, repeal or otherwise’

Military does create their own executive policies. DADT should be repealed in Congress and the military should be left alone to decide their policy. The Congress and the pigheaded politicians should get out of the way.

You are here to insult me.

On the contrary, there is a great deal of difference between an observation based on extensive experience and an insult.

I am not a troll. I am conservative and proud of it.

Conservatives DO NOT SAY:

Homosexuals should be evaluated like everybody else - they apply honestly if found able to serve - they serve

DADT is tolerating gay serving secretly in the military.

Whereas you would prefer they serve openly.

They should be openly banned or openly accepted - decision that should be up to the military.

Trolls always try to backpedal when caught.

Exactly, this is why DADT should be repealed so the military doesn’t have to tolerate those who sneak secretly in the military. They should be able to ask and investigate.

I trust the military. On Dec 1 the military will come up with a report - and their recommendations should be accepted by Congress.
Do you trust the military?

I'M WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!

I will support whatever the military recommends on December 1.
The Congress too should accept their recommendation and repeal DADT and go with whatever the military suggests is the right policy.

Can we agree with that?

It is early release from the schools today, so I have to go get the kids.

It will be few hours before I will be able to respond to your insults, so be patient.

Here is what you said in post #22: Homosexuals should be evaluated like everybody else - they apply honestly if found able to serve - they serve - if found not able - not serve. That is YOU saying that YOU think homosexuals should be allowed to serve in the United States Armed Forces

I took that to mean if and when the military "mans" up and recognizes it again as a disorder, they will not be able to serve. As was the policy before DADT.

“Do you trust the military?”

Not really anymore. The left has made to much progress. Just look at how we fight wars now.

Do you honestly think the military is going to declare homosexuality a disorder?

I think they may be willing to go back to the pre-DADT policy of not allowing homosexuals in, but I don't see them declaring it a disorder.

Not exaclty.

Seeking to lift the ban is to give normalization to homosexuality. The ban therefore allows for the fact that it is not acceptable or normal.

Thats why I can agree that DADT is flawed, creating an even more dishonest atmosphere

However, the troll is in favor of lifting the ban AND allowing homosexuals to serve openly, that's what "should be evaluated like everybody else" means.

Sure. But if "like everybody else" means being hetro - they are evaluated and rejected. Which is why the ban should be brought back and the DADT farce gone.

Big Bureaucracy stated she would abide what the military decides. It's the damn politicans making a mockery with DADT
