Veteran election analyst Charlie Cook has backed away from his earlier prediction that control of the Senate was in play in this election. In light of Tuesdays Delaware Republican primary, Cook says the odds now overwhelmingly favor the Democrats retaining their Senate majority:

We only need to pick up 5 or 6 more rock solid conservatives and that will be enough to give us the filibuster. Five more conservatives will be enough to counter the liberal Maine twins and we can block anything coming out of the Chuck Shumer Senate.

11 points is nothing in this environment. O’Donnell is flush with cash and Coons is a weak candidate.
If Christine gets decent handling, she wins.

Cook: Odds Of GOP Senate Near Zero After DelawareDirtboy: Odds of the Maine twins thinking they can continue to vote to break GOP filibusters without fear of getting primaried their next election: Absolute Zero.
And that is the real benefit here. Even RINO senators from otherwise blue states can no longer think they're safe.

Let me be a contrarian for a moment. Maybe its for the best that Republicans dont hold both chambers going into the Presidential election cycle. It will be more difficult for Obama to run against and to blame Republicans for his continued failures.Does "contrarian" mean "dumbass?"

BTW, WHO is running for Mike Castle's House seat??? It's not Mike Castle's seat -- it's the peoples' seat. ;)
Glen Urquhart, a conservative businessman, has a decent shot at it against nondescript ex-Lt Gov John Carney.

They have made Christine ODonnell into an independent candidate who is fighting both parties in Washington to represent the people of Delaware. Short of serious missteps by her, theres no way that situation will lose in this environment.”
You’ve pretty much nailed it right there.

Better 49 conservative Republicans than 51 RINOs. Any day of the week.

You may be right, If we control both houses, it’s Obama against the “obstructionist GOP that is stalling a recovery.”
A House win and 47-49 seats in the Senate may be perfect for run-up to ‘12.

Charlie Cook is also predicting a GOP Tsunami, and that the GOP will take the House, so its not like he’s saying this just to discount GOP chances. all this shoot the messenger stuff is pointless. It’s a pundit prediction is all.

I'll make a bet.....I think COD wins by 4 or 5. I'll take that bet -- it's a win-win: either I'm right or America gets another conservative Senator.

How would a Senate with Castle and the other RINOs not be controlled by Democrats? The only difference is that Republicans would get blamed for it. If the citizens of Delaware aren’t brain dead, Republicans will still get the Senate, with O’Donnell instead of a Washingtonian liar, or another loser Marxist.

Yes, The tea party “Taxed Enough already” party is helping the conservatives clean our own GOP house first. Just wait until November, then we will help clean our Democratic brothers and sisters from both the House and the Senate. 20 years max serving your country! After that, it’s time to go.

Oooh! Cook said it so it must be true! Are you afraid yet?! :-) I'm shaking in my boots!....NOT!
What dumbass needs to understand is that we don't WANT GOPers like Cook in the Senate. If our voting for "upstanding" people results in the Dems controlling the House and Senate, then so be it. The sooner this nation digresses into hell, the sooner perhaps people will be willing to get off their dead asses and do something about it... maybe.

We only need to pick up 5 or 6 more rock solid conservatives and that will be enough to give us the filibuster.Gotta account for Brown and Lindsey Graham too. I'm thinking 47 or 48 is where I'd like to end up, but anything below 51 is my ideal.

Nobody predicted 52. Up to 52, but more likely 47 to 49, now more likely 46 to 48.
We are behind in WA, even in NV, CA, and ahead in WI.
Delaware is more than iffy, its a long shot.
But this is a different year.
Reality Check: IT AINT OVER UNTIL THE LAST VOTE IS CAST.

I was thinking same thing. No longer do these blue state RINOs get to vote Dem thinking they won't get primaried and use their liberal voting record to win in the General.
They will be taken down in the primary going forward. Just ask Murkowski, Bennet, Castle, Specter, etc.
2012 RINOs: Corker, Lugar, Brown, Snowe (and 1 more who escapes me)

Being unable to send a budget that defund the obamacare implementation will lead to it becoming embedded in our law.
BAD OUTCOME.

Illinois should be a GOP Lock. A lot of us, like me, will hold their collective noses and vote for Kirk hoping that the leadership will keep him in line.
We recognize that he may “specter-ize” himself but having the numbers in the Senate for any coming SCOTUS appointments, to me, is key.
