NJ Gov. Christie Clashes with Teacher at Town Hall
The Blaze ^ | September 10, 2010 | SeekTheTruth

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is known for telling it like he sees it. At a town hall meeting in Raritan, NJ, he made sure to bolster that reputation. The fireworks start in the beginning but be sure to listen to the video clip below.  Governor Christie explains how the teacher‘s union in the state refused to compromise to save the state’s crucial education dollars.  Listen and see why I love Governor Chris Christie!

It is tonic listening to him. Your description of ‘his direct way of using facts to dowse emotion’ is perfect.

Boehner et al could take some lessons.

Governor Chris Christie for President!

Or at least for the next Republican Supreme Court nominee.

SEEK THE TRUTH Christie supports Mike Castle (RINO) and is soft on the Second Amendment. Anytime you see a politican start saying they're pro 2nd Amendment ask them specifics because talk is cheap. Ask them how they feel about "assault weapons" and concealed carry laws and you'll find in most cases they support REASONABLE GUN CONTROL LAWS (code for being ANT-GUN) like saying no to semi autos and no carrying on your person for self defense, yada yada yada. Folks, remember it's never about guns, it's always about control. So if your politician supports reasonable gun laws he is ANTI-FREEDOM and if a republican then he (or she) is a RINO. Buyer beware.

Your argument is based on two points that seem to be shakey at best. 1) that if Christie steps out onto the national stage he will say stupid things. This is not the certainity you seem to propose. 2) That if he is called on them (stupid things) it will affect people in other states. Why and how?

My point is this - teachers that I know are pretty well compensated when you include all forms of compensation. To pay for a few supplies when you are pretty much promised a job for life (ever try to fire a teacher?), always get the nod in funding your raises from state government

It's hard to believe you live in North Carolina. Two years in a row with no raises. Not that that doesn't happen in private business -- but it's not like teachers get promotions or performance bonuses either.

BTW - I am paid based on my production. Hardly a socialist outlook. Are teachers paid on their production? Congrats to you for making an illogical argument.

Think about it. Teachers AREN'T paid based on their effectiveness and they do get a huge portion of their compensation as benefits they can't control instead of cash that they could.

You already said you wanted to sign on to the socialist benefits package, give up an extra $5000 or $10000 of salary for more health & retirement subsidies -- but teachers don't get that choice.

There are many teachers, particularly the better ones, who would love to be compensated based on their effectiveness PLUS receive a compensation package that doesn't piss away a big chunk of their "earnings" on benefits. And then a few hundred bucks for supplies would not be a big deal.

Christie is better - infinitely better - speaking off-the-cuff than our supposedly charismatic president is with a whole army of teleprompters.

If there's something you don't understand, I will try to explain with smaller words.

But if you just attack me without citing anything, it's hard to know where your comprehension fails.

Reminds me of the 100,000 cop program under Clinton. They hired a bunch of officers with the money which was one year money, when the DC money went away, the cities were in the hobson’s choice of firing them or finding the money to keep them employed.

Good point. I was on a city council when that came up. Our council declined the money for that very reason. Funny thing is, a couple months later we got what I would consider a kinda nasty letter from the feds chastising us for not taking the money. I should have kept a copy of that. Crazy, getting a threatening letter about not taking money.

Not that crazy. Wasn’t that the whole idea of the state bailouts? Take the money and we’ll own you. Don’t take the money and we’ll nail you to the wall.

I don’t get it. It’s a job. It’s stupid to spend your own money to buy supplies for work.

Bull. The average teacher makes $55,000. The money they get keeps going up and up and up and yet the whining keeps getting louder and louder and louder. And performance doesn’t improve.
