New Poll Has Van Tran In Dead Heat With Loretta Sanchez

It might be time for the Washington prognosticators to move CD47 from "leans Democratic" to "toss up."

A new poll of 400 likely voters in CD47 by the American Action Forum has Assemblyman Van Tran with 43% to 45% for Rep.Loretta Sanchez -- well within the 4.9% margin of error.

It remains close even when you factor out the "leaners": Sanchez 42%, Van 40%.

There isn't a lot of good news for Sanchez in this poll.

For example, in response to the question, "Do you think Loretta Sanchez deserves reelection as congresswoman, or do you think it is time to give someone else a chance?", only 35% said Loretta deserves another term, while 57% think it is time for someone else.

This is great news. Tran’s campaign is really getting off the ground. His victory would really be historic.

Well, he’ll be the second Vietnamese-American elected to Congress (Ahh Cao beat him by 2 years).

Maybe everybody else is familiar with every election in the country but I couldn’t find a hint in the article about where this election is taking place.

My next door neighbor has a yard sign for a Loretta Sanchez but I don’t think she’s running in Texas.

The district has probably changed alot since the glory days when B-1 Bob Dornan was in office, but it's still an Orange Co. district and has a significant number of Republicans. It gave Obama 60% of the vote in 2008, but in normal election cycles it tends to be split 50-50 and elects alot of Republicans locally. Sort of like my township, which gave Obama 60% in 2008 but voted for conservative Peter Fitzgerald in '98 and is now leaning heavily towards conservative Bill Brady for Governor.

I think Van Tran has a very good shot of upseating an incumbent, but even if this election climate, it's still difficult to get rid of entrenched RATs in majority RAT districts so the GOP will go all out.

One bonus for us is that Van Tran is likely to vote much more conservative than the centrist Cao in New Orleans. I hope Cao gets re-elected though, it would really annoy the libs that BOTH of the two Vietnamese-Americans ever to serve in Congressmen are Republicans, and Van Tran might be an influence on Cao and move him to the right.

Cao is not wasting any time with fundraising, he’s got a pretty good war chest. If he survives reelection (and he just might), that will make him a formidable figure.

I wish there was an order of priority in donating to candidates......like, who really, really needs the money?....who’s race is so close that that little bit extra could push it over to victory..

If I recall correctly, she did. Before running for Congress, she ran for city council--using her husband's anglo-sounding name.
