An Obama supporter who has a temp gig at my office has asked me to put in a good word for them (gender-neutral reference) toward a more permanent position.

What to do, what to do?

If I was a temp I would not bring my politics to the office. I do not even doing it in my managerial position. So you have to wonder about her overall judgement.

However, if she was great at her job I would give her a good recommendation.

If she has done a good job recommend. If she is around more who know the truth she may come to “see the light”. She would then be another voice for conservatives. Better that then to send her to a group of like minded who would only serve to re-inforce her dillusion.

Ypur DESIRE to help them may be changed- but whether or not you WOULD is different =- isnt it.

And that all depends on what we all believe here- are they a good worker? or not?

OUR values take precedence

Good word only if they’ll kickback 20% of their salary to you, politics has nothing to do with it.

Have you let him know what the impact Obama is having on our nation and people? What is his response?

Why would you consciously prevent or hinder someone from getting a job, because you don’t agree with them politically?

Because they continue to vote in a way that makes it harder for me to find a job?

If you’re questioning it, you may already have reservation about this person, politics or not. If they were a good employee (politics aside), you wouldn’t have to think so hard on it. In my opinion.

Shameful?

So, if you owned a medium sized biz...would you hire an open radical democrat socialist obmama supporter that was qualified for the job? OR would you hire the other person that was qualified...a conservative, freedom loving, american?

Does the person do a good job? Are they qualified for the position?

The content of their character, not the color of their ideology should be your guide. I mean, it might be possible to be a progressive fascist clown and a good employee at the same time.

But I doubt it.

Nope. We are in a fight for our survival. I have no value of someone voting against my rights and trying to take all my money. I am not going to help them get any money.

Is the person capable of doing the job as described? If yes, then put in a good word. if no, then not.

WE at least can base our evaluations and recommendations on Merit.

As opposed to “Feelings”.

You must consider the ramifications of having to work with a Lib. I am dead serious.

I am in the unenviable position of having several Liberal coworkers. The working environment here has slowly degraded from occasional heated discussions during the Clinton years, to overly heated arguments during GWB years, to outright hostility/hatred today.

I used to really enjoy my job. I still like the work I do, but the poisonous atmosphere today makes it almost unbearable at times. Take heed.

If they are an asset (to the job, not humanity), then you should support their efforts.

Be objective as to whether they could get the job done. If they could focus on the job without having to compulsively use the office as a political soapbox, that counts in their favor.

An acquaintance of mine is a college professor, very liberal, but teaching in the hard sciences. She has been helping me break into teaching part time (engineering/technical course).

Does she know you're a "tea bagger"?
