An Obama supporter who has a temp gig at my office has asked me to put in a good word for them (gender-neutral reference) toward a more permanent position.

What to do, what to do?

Be kind.

Or not.

Tell her to call Joe Biden for a saved or created job.

did the person do a good job or not? I would base my recommendation that. If so-so, I would’t go out on a limb.

You even have to ask? That’s shameful.

Why would you conciously prevent or hinder someone from getting a job, because you don’t agree with them politically?

If the person did a good job, put in a good word. If not, not.

I would put in a good word for them if I thought they were going to be a good employee.

Be true to your values, even if those around you have none.

I have a similar situation with an acquaintance who recently sent me his resume and in the process we were “friended” on FB. Through his FB posts I’ve notice that they are a flaming liberal. Suddenly my urge to help them get a job has diminished.

If he does good work, put in a word. If not, don’t.
Its about the office and the job, not his politics.

Permanent position in another office or yours?

When a current landlord wants to be rid of a tenant, if the ‘next’ prospective landlord calls for references they tend to not give much damaging info or speak highly of the tenants to get them off their property....

No.

Like the other guy said...call Plugs and Zeerho for one of those created or saved jobs they keep on about.

Does he/she do good work? Get along with the other folks in the office?

What the HELL do politics have to do with it, other than your apparent discomfort with disagreement?

Uh, the judgment thing. And the taste thing. Do you want your reputation at the office to be affected by someone with this kind of judgment and/or taste? I wouldn’t turn them down, if I were you, I would just smile, nod, keep quiet and fail to take action.

If they are democrat they may fail these tests (except expect you to pay for #2)

You know their character by the kind of job they did.

People grow over time. If they are good at their job and easy to work with I’d let that be my guide. Young whippersnappers will tend to be Obamists just because they are young and dumb. They still need a break and they’ll grow up as they get some seasoning.

I agree with others. If this person would make a good employee...do so. You may have opportunities to widen his/her perspective later.....particularly after doing a good deed. ;-)

No good work ethic...do NOT recommend.
