Latest Updates: Democrat Congressman Assaults Student-Caught on Video

Update 2: Democrats have decided to leap to the defense of their own by attacking the messenger of the video, in this case Breitbart. Politico is reporting that the Democrats have released “key talking points” in an effort to discredit the video and somehow shed an acceptable light on the thuggishness of one their own Congressmen. The Talking Points include points such as:

“There are points that you can’t see in the video… ”

“What was the motivation?..”

“This is clearly the work of the Republican Party and the ‘interviewer’ is clearly a low level staffer or intern. That’s what explains blurring the face of the “interviewer” and refusing to identify the entity this was done for…”

“Push hard w/ blogs the lack of credibility inherent to anything Breitbart does/posts, given its role in the debunked ACORN videos” (debunked? Hardly!)

I’m surprised that the Democrats would choose this situation as one worthy of defense! I think it’s pretty clear to almost everybody that no amount of spin can possibly make this look better and attaching themselves to the controversy is only going to get them dirty as well.

A Republican would have been ruined in this instance. But a Democrat obviously becomes a hero to their party. I grew up hearing that liberalism is a mental disorder and I think this proves it.

Update 1:

Washington, DC, Jun 14 - U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) released the following statement on the viral video which appeared on the internet today:

“I have seen the video posted on several blogs. I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved. Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a poor response. I have and I will always work to promote a civil public discourse.”

I guess he just saw his political life flash before his eyes! By the way, from what I can tell, he has a very good Conservative candidate running hard for his position and I’m sure right about now she is feeling like her birthday came early! You can find out more about Renee Ellmer here.

***************************************************

How do these people make it to Washington? Or perhaps they are beginning to feel the consequential heat of their decisions? Democrat Congressman from North Carolina, Bob Etheridge, is walking past a student asking him a legitimate question, “Do you fully support the Obama agenda?” The Congressman, very aggressively grabs the young man and demands, “Who are you? Who are you?” The student repeatedly asks to be released and the Congressman continues to tussle with him, refusing to let go. And it’s done in such a way that one must wonder if he’s at full mental capacity.

It is doubtful that while this kind of behavior is definitely newsworthy, especially to the residents of North Carolina, this probably won’t get run on the mainstream media. It’s my opinion that this Congressman should have his next interview from a DC jail cell and the young man who was assaulted should be praised for showing such restraint.

The students should press charges.

Etheridge shows he is an arrogant bully. If the college student had been 6’ 3” and 225 lbs, I don’t think Etheridge would have been grabbing him by the nape of the neck. Coward!

Of course being political interns they will or already have weighed the implications to their own careers if they press charges. Most likely they have made a laundry list of demands to the congressman and he is drinking heavily ( like he must have been that day)

Yesterday, I posted the following regarding this "event":

First of all, this so-called "kid" repeatedly (actually, a nice young man) addressed the Congresssman as "Sir." Second, he used a respectful tone of voice. Third, he was well dressed and did not push back or become aggressive in any way with the older person.

In the third place, Congressman Etheridge made his reputation in NC largely by serving in the top post in Secondary Education--Superintendent of Public Instruction or some such title. As such, the Congressman should have been delighted to see a coat-and-tie dressed, courteous young person asking him a question about his support of the President's policies. Isn't that what secondary education is all about--producing curious young people?

There is absolutely no excuse for a man of Etheridge's age and supposed interest in the development of youth acting the way he did. He could have asked his question without grabbing, pushing, and manhandling this young man.

Age is supposed to be able to display a grace that perhaps youth has not yet acquired.

Etheridge simply displayed the same arrogant attitude most of the other Democrats displayed in their infamous "town hall" meetings last summer.

In this summer before the Fall vote, the Far Left can be expected to become "unhinged" time and again when confronted with courteous questions such as the one the young man asked Etheridge. The truth is that liberals cannot engage in meaningful debate on principles and ideas. They must rely on "talking points" or anger.

The students should press charges.

There's no need for the student to press charges. The DC police should be on this. The student should file a civil suit, however.

I say...watch for this Congresscreature to be hospitalized for "extreme exhaustion" very soon.

Yeah, well, there are points we can't see in the current ruling agenda but that doesn't stop you from pushing forward on them, either.

Oh, well that gives cover for an unprovoked assault.

Move along, nothing to see.

I guess they were slow to get the talking points to the Congressman because he had no excuse yesterday and was really ashamed (or so he played it that way).

I agree. I’d sue for a couple of billion just to make sure I made the news. I’d settle for his immediate resignation.

-"Democrats have decided to leap to the defense of their own"

GOOD! Then let's get all the RATs to either 'condemn' or 'support' the actions of this tyrannical rat - and use their words of support for CAMPAIGN ADS this November.

The dems defended the pervert in the oval office.

There is no crime too egregious for them to defend.

I really don't care WHAT the dems say about any of this, Etheridge still had no legal right to even touch the boy, much less manhandle him the way he did.

It doesn't matter if the interviewer had been wearing a GOP jumpsuit and waving Sarah Palin bumperstickers, the drunken congressman still had no right to touch him.

All of the democrat arguments are moot, their entire defense was nullified the very moment Etheredge laid hands on the boy...period....end of discussion.

You can't un-ring a bell...

Any conservative running for office needs to clip the front end of that video
“who are you, who are you” and put it at the beginning of a campaign TV commercial to highlight the danger each one of us faces from Obama and all dem policies. Our freedom is fleeting

What I found at least as disgusting as this sorry excuse for a Demonrat Senator was the media “follow-up”, where not a single “Talking Head” had the nerve to repeat the kid’s question.

Seems like the “management” of the public skools are more interested in turning out people who are obedient to the wishes of the state, who know their place and dare not question authority !

In my personal experience, going from pubic school to private was a breath of fresh air ! In the public school, they didn’t take too kindly to questioning the status quo. This was in the 1980’s. I wonder how much worse it got. When I went to the private school (Jesuit), you were always encurage to ask questions and to question things. A complete 180 !
