Conservative icon William F. Buckley Jr. would approve of the tea party movement, says conservative historian Lee Edwards, who just finished a book about Buckley.
Bill Buckley embodied the idea of blending the main streams of conservatism traditional conservatives, libertarian conservatives, social conservatives, neo-conservatives, national security conservatives and so forth, Edwards told Newsmax.TV.
He always said politics is a matter of addition not subtraction. I think he would reach out with open arms to the tea party movement.
(VIDEO AT LINK)
Edwards sees many similarities between the tea partyers and Buckley. They both are/were anti-establishment; they both support(ed) limited government, for example.
And just as not all tea partyers are Republicans, Bill Buckley was very careful about choosing Republicans as the main political vehicle, but maintaining good relationships with Democrats like Joe Lieberman, Edwards said.
His book is William F. Buckley Jr.: The Maker of a Movement. Edwards is a distinguished fellow at The Heritage Foundation.
And how would Buckley unite conservatives to victory in todays political climate?
First, He would make sure there are no extremists, as when he said there was no room for the John Birch Society in the conservative movement of the 1950s-60s, Edwards said. That groups founder Robert Welch said communists made up 50-70 percent of the U.S. government.
In addition, Buckley would counsel against engaging in ad hominem personal attacks, Edward said.
Stick to ideas. Bring people together around the basic ideas of conservatism limited government, individual responsibility, free enterprise.
President Obama, who is trying to turn us into a European democratic-socialist society, presents the conservative movement with the biggest challenge of its 50-60 year existence, Edwards says.(continued)

Just a drive by here, sorry, can't stay.
It's not like your analogy at all. This wasn't twenty years ago with someone having a change in heart.
This was less than two years ago, and according to his posts this week his support still stands. Get it yet?
Also, it's not just a different candidate, it's like a democrat who votes for Lyndon LaRouche. These guys are just as loony in lots of ways. They are not conservatives at all, like I say, it goes to judgement
As to the charge of changing the thread....
bwahahahahahaha......*gasping for breath*
You might want to look at how most of the posts from your gang are about Sarah Palin, not McCain, not JD.
Bbl. Hope your day is going well.

This was less than two years ago, and according to his [Rabscuttle385] posts this week his support (for Ron Paul/Chuck Baldwin) still stands. Get it yet?
I 'get' that Rabs is entitled to support and vote for anyone he chooses, and he doesn't have to defend his choices to the likes of you or anybody. Who he has voted for in the past is still utterly irrelevant to the topic of this thread.
You have evolved into a one trick pony shark, you prattle on and on about who supported who, and who voted for what candidate, but you are unable to explain why that is so crucial. Here is the acid test: Rabs supports J.D. Hayworth, he does NOT support the RINO-enabling Sarah Palin (and neither do I) and that makes him ok in my book. His past support for any other candidate is a non-issue, and I would daresay that you are dragging things into this thread from other threads (regarding Rabs), that have no place here. I saw a troll get smacked down by the mods for trying to pull that crap on me recently, so again I urge you for your own good, stay on topic.

Well guess what?
Rabs is a Ron Paul supporter who voted for Chuck Baldwin (Ron Paul supported Chuck Baldwin in 2008).
He's admitted to that and claims to be proud of it.
This week alone RP:
1. Dissed Arizona's immigration law
2. Blamed Israel for the flotilla incidents
3. Endorsed gays in the military.
4. Said to take it easy on Obama, that nothing of the spill mess was his fault.
Baldwin is on record as thinking US black ops caused the earthquake in Haiti.
Meh. These guys are loonier than McCain ever will be.
Just providing a courtesy ping to Rabs, since he never got one.
Still waiting to hear why the above is so crucial when it has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.

Well, you were actually the one who began with your infinite Ron Paul posts. I then tried to explain to you why it was important, that it went to the judg
ement and heart of your apparent ping posse leader.
You've never dealt with that problem, you've avoided dealing with it. Btw, that's one method of dealing with cognitive dissonance.
Just think....you and your groupies made this into a Sarah Palin bashing thread, as is the desire of a lot of Paulbots, and you willingly went there. She had nothing to do with the topic. But fearless leader started it, and he seems to encourage it on all the McCain threads. I've yet to see you object to that, and ask your friends to stay on topic......*wondering why*.......
Now think about this. Sarah Palin and you probably agree on things somewhere over 90% on policy, and even endorsements. Ron Paul and you probably agree less than 50% (and yes, sometimes even I agree with the nutjob), like the endorsement of Cynthia McKinney and Adam Kokesh, yet you (and a few friends) tirelessly diss her on the few percentile things you disagree on whilst allowing fearless leader and his ridiculous candidates a free pass.
You've said you aren't a Paulist, and I assume you're not for Lyndon either. Voting and supporting these guys is akin to voting for Lyndon LaRouche, simply loony, yet you can't face that and take it on.

You obviously are unable to understand or comprehend satire. My post #29 (directed primarily to Rabs, not you) contained multiple 'RON PAUL' invocations as a way of pointing out the lunacy of the Palinistas who attack anyone who isn't on board the Sarah Express by calling the offending party a 'Paulite' or 'Mitt supporter' or any number of epithets. So far as the judgment of Rabs, concerning the topic of this thread, he is against Palin, he is against McCain, he is FOR Hayworth, and that is the bottom line. His judgment is fine in that regard, your repeated efforts to smear him notwithstanding.
You've never dealt with that problem, you've avoided dealing with it. Btw, that's one method of dealing with cognitive dissonance.
There is no 'problem' whatsoever, except for your tendency to keep talking out of your ass.

Sharky, you have constructed this elaborate and complex set of faux 'arguments' that are simply irrelevant. Whether or not I agree with Sarah Palin on 90, 80, 70 or 60 percent or even less regarding policy is beside the point. She has proven that she is an enabler of RINOs like McCain, Fiorina, Steele, et al, and that makes her poison to conservatism in general. She is an opportunist who has said repeatedly that she "shares John McCain's vision for America" and as I have pointed out before, THAT vision is for damn sure not a conservative vision. If Sarah Palin shares McCain's "vision", then she and I have NOTHING in common whatsoever, she is NO conservative, and I say here and now that based on her affirmation of McCain's "vision", that she is a charlatan and a fake, and is conning the entire conservative base with nothing but lip service while actually supporting the liberal-progressive agenda of her national political mentor John McCain.
McCain is a traitor, and she has made common cause with a traitor. Conservatives who are still capable of using logic and reason ought to be able to see that. All of the good she might do will be meaningless if her legacy is to enable and continue the GOP/RINO-liberal 'business as usual' scam on the public, and on Republicans specifically.

Hint to MK: The subject is the author's opinion of whether Buckley would approve of her.
In your satire, you chose to bring up a point, I simply engaged it.
You're all so funny, pinging your list for help when you can no longer hold things off, and avoiding the obvious problem of judgement continues.

The topic was the author's claim (actually a stupid one either way) that WFB would have supported her. You all made it into a bashing thread. Hint to mk: You said Ron Paul was not a discussion point, when you brought him up.
I think we've said our points. You've never dealt with mine, because you can't.
Off again. Enjoy your ping buddies. I'm certain you will address things with decorum and intelligence. Have a good one.

PUBIC SERVICE ADVISORY
Forum participants: Please be forewarned regarding a new communicable syndrome. It's...
Post Hypnotic Infatuation and Total Transformation Syndrome
Recent History:
This particular strain, is a relatively new phenomenon. The mesmerized are infatuated, and have undergone a total transformation.
Psychiatrists have only recently defined this affliction, and are now referring to it by the pseudonym, "PHITTS".
Symptoms:
People sign on to internet forums and betray what they have stood for for their entire lives. Sadly, in their confused state, they aren't able to understand that is in fact what they are doing.
There's already evidence of it on FRee Republic. If you pay attention, you'll probably see a few long timers throwing PHITTS here almost daily.
What to do:
Be prepared. It's sad to see the good ones fall. Don't over react. Be ready to type calm soothing phrases in praise of the person they idolize.
Now this is vitally important. Whatever you do, don't confront them with actual truth. That would be a real shock and could cause long lasting harm if help isn't nearby.
If you see a person like this on the forum, you may want to ask a mod to drop by with a wheel chair. In this dizzy state, forum participants have been known to fall and hit their head. (In some instances, head pounding may have been intentional, say against walls, keyboards, and other stationary objects.) Snapping back to reality can be nearly fatal if it doesn't take place under the careful supervision of trained professionals.
Prognosis:
At present there is no known cure, but similar syndromes have appeared before. In the early 2000s, there was an epidemic of Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS). Symptoms rarely disappear completely, but there is about a 50/50 chance they will become less pronounced after general elections. Of course some people seem to be more susceptible to these syndromes, and cures for them are almost nonexistent.
Other Helpful Suggestions:
If at all possible, when dealing with the worst outbreaks, it's been suggested transferring the infatuation from one person to another that may be a more wholesome individual at it relates to Conservatism, might be preferable. Current field trials have shown little success with this tactic. Unfortunately there isn't a better suggestion at this time. Several vaccines are in trials. One involves self administered doses of lead. The other involves high places without railings.

Derangement Syndromes Under the Names of: Campbell, Collins, Dole, Fiorina, Graham, Kristol, MeCain, Palin, Romney, Steele, Snowe, Whitman
Other Early Telltale Signs of PHITTS
The Use of Phrases Like:
...best mother ever! (especially important to note if nobody said she wasn't)
...best governor ever! (especially important to note if something lame was mentioned, and the afflicted person couldn't deal with it)
...smartest politician ever! (especially important to note if something very suspect was mentioned, and the afflicted person couldn't deal with it)
...knows what she is doing! (likelihood increases in direct proportion to how clear it is that she doesn't)
...oh, every candidate makes a few mistakes! (likelihood increases if the mistake continues for months, and is only reinforced with further displays of "mistakes, big fricken mistakes")
...oh, this person that everyone adores made this same mistake, and much worse ones. Why they were a real jackass, the biggest jerks we've ever seen, and you liked them. (BACK AWAY SLOWLY, then quicker, then turn and run in a zig-zag pattern.)
The Inclusion of Insults Like:
...you are clearly a RomneyBot. (odds go up if you dislike Romeny, never voted for Romney, and think RomneyCare was proposed by a guy with more than a few screws loose)
...you are clearly a PaulBot. (odds go up if you think Ron Paul has left the stratosphere on certain subjects, and you couldn't see yourself voting for him if there were only him, two cats and a zebra left on planet earth)
...you are working for Democrats. (odds go up if you have never knowingly shaken hands with a Democrat, and wouldn't vote for one if your left foot was on fire, and they had a fire extinguisher in their hand)
...you don't know who you'll vote for in 2012, and yet you said something uncomplimentary about my idol! (don't wait, seek cover...)
...okay, who is better? Tell me right now, who is better! TELL ME RIGHT NOW YOU COMMIE!!!!! YOU'RE A ------- COMMIE!!!! GO BACK TO DU, YOU ------- COMMIE! I'M GOING TO KILL YOU YOU ------- COMMIE!!!! I'M COMING AFTER YOU, YOUR SPOUSE, YOUR CHILDREN, YOUR CATS, YOUR DOGS, YOUR TELEVISION, YOUR EXTENDED FAMILY, YOUR COWORKERS, YOUR FELLOW CHURCH MEMBERS, AND YOUR BOWLING TEAM, YOU ------- COMMIE BASTARD TRAITOR TO MY IDOL. I'M COMING RIGHT NOW... (and I notified Jim, and everyone will know) (don't wait, don't seek cover, just RUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!! Change your name. If you know someone, get a new identity and have them place you under witness protection. Leave your belongings. You'll have to start over but you'll be alive.)
PHITTS, it's not just another flavor of kool-aid. "Or is it?" he asked, scratching his head...
END OF PSA

You still got it.
That one I always like because they are prepared with one of the two following replies for any answer:
1) So and So is not allowed to be defended here so you are in REAL trouble now, you better log off and throw away your password. (mainly for Romney-bots)
2) So and So has little chance of winning the Republican primary so you are a 1%er, you are helping Romney. (for anyone else)
Here is one I used to see a lot but not any more:”You must be working for XXX, how much are they paying you to post here??” as if this is a serious question. Like someone would post :”Ron Paul is paying me $10 per comment to criticize McCain, why? do you want a job?”
