What language am I writing to you in, sir? I was born and raised on the island and I think I’m rather fluent in English, as are most of the people I know here.
Also, unlike most states and the federal government, English is actually an official language of Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico was annexed by the U.S. over a hundred years ago and language has not been an issue in our relationship at all. Why would that change under statehood?

Before answering, please consider -- it's one thing to vote for statehood, but it's wrong to make it such an open-ended offer that would require a new bill to overrule that open-ended offer [not to mention the diplomatic thorn patch that would result]. It should be a one-time offer only, and that's if you think it is best for the USA's interests. "Puerto Rico was annexed by the U.S. over a hundred years ago and language has not been an issue in our relationship at all. Why would that change under statehood?"
It's a sad fact of history -- one language always means greater stability. New languages always decrease stability. It's important to study the concept of balkanization before considering statehood.
It would be wrong to demand that Puerto Rico speak English.
