Is the tea party movement being hoodwinked by the establishment?

Is the tea party movement being hoodwinked by the establishment?
Brian Shoemake

The one thing I take away from today's rally in Searchlight Nevada, is that the tea party is without question coalescing, and fiercely I might add, around a single Presidential candidate for 2012. . .Already. It's early in the game yet, and the whole idea behind the Tea Party movement was to objectively review all of our potential choices, so we would never be led down the path again. At least that's what I thought.

After today, I'll never again look at the Tea Party movement as one made up of Constitutional Conservatives. They may be Conservative, but sadly, not my brand of Conservatism.

Independent thinkers? I think not. Group thinkers? Indeed.

After a rip-roaring reception for the Keynote Speaker, I was sadly disillusioned at the lack of criticism toward the former Alaska Governor and Republican Party "Cover Girl," Sarah Palin.

Wasn't it just yesterday, she was in Arizona campaigning for the former "Maverick" suddenly turned rock-ribbed conservative "reach-across-the-isle" moderate "RINO" John McCain of McCain/Feingold, McCain/Kennedy fame? And who also voted for Amnesty for illegal aliens? That gang of 14 John McCain?

The same John McCain who tenderly re-assured us during the 2008 campaign: "Barack Obama is a good man...If he's elected President you don't have anything to worry about." That John McCain?

Yes, indeed Sarah Palin is supporting that same John McCain who sided with Bill Clinton against the Republicans and voted for the tobacco tax in the 90's that led to trial lawyers raking in millions at the expense of Americans.

The same John McCain who voted in favor of campaign finance reform, and FDA regulation of vitamin supplements, the Patriot Act, and more.

Sarah Palin spent Friday campaigning for John McCain against the true conservative and former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth who has a true conservative record, and is campaigning on true constitutional values.

Nothing conservative about that.

Then she spent Saturday spouting conservative talking points like some kind of right wing warrior with Tea Partyers screaming like 12 year old girls at a Jonas Brothers concert.

Nothing especially objective about that, or conservative as far as I'm concerned.

I realized long ago that you can't listen to what politicians say, you have to watch what they do, and Sarah Palin's actions do not match her words.

I never thought the Tea Party crowd could be so easily manipulated by the main-stream establishment machine. I only wish they would stick to true conservative values and consider the other candidates before they hitch their wagons to the apron strings of pretty ms. Palin.

As I made my way through the crowd voicing my dis-approval of their irrational and exuberant support for Sarah Palin, I was yelled at and ridiculed by Tea Party attendees. I was subjected to near violence in one instance. I was told to "Get the hell out of here." and "You don't belong here boy." "Go back to Obama where you belong you commie." and other select less than flattering remarks about my looks and my political beliefs, and my sexual preferences.

Striking behavior when you consider we are all conservative adults. The thought that was going through my head was: "Obama Zombies" only worse..."Palin Zombies!" It was the exact same group-think mentality with absolutey zero tolerance for my opinion. I was actually told that "I am the reason this country is so screwed up, and if I knew what was good for me I'd get the hell out of here..."

I realized I was dealing with a group-think mentality who had already drunk the Koolaid. There was no reasoning with them. Apparently, Conservatives are so desperate for leadership, they'll line up behind the first pied-piper who comes along, regardless the consequences to the country. Sound at all familiar? The same machine that was behind the election of obama is hard at work drilling the brains of the Tea Partyers. Maybe not the exact same people, just the exact same political establishment machine...

What did I take away from today's Tea Party rally in Searchlight?

There's another "Hoodwink" coming in 2012 and it scares the hell out of me.

Rush Limbaugh and others, including Sarah Palin say the tea party movement isn't about a person it's about ideas. But it seems to me it is all about one person - Palin. And if you don't worship at the shrine of Sarah Palin then you're not a true conservative, patriot, etc. I'm reading the book Obama Zombies right now and as I'm reading it I keep thinking we're doing the same thing with Palin. The only difference being we don't have the main stream media and pop culture on our side...

Folks had better be very cautious about any politician who runs on a moniker of “repeal the bill”, too. Unless there is veto proof support in both houses of Congress for repealing the health control boondoggle there will be no repeal until Obamalamadingdong is out of office. If people fall for this line without doing their homework a lot of RINO’s will gain or keep office......

I know the Palin haters have to get a jab in every time she attends a rally or otherwise opens her mouth.

She didn’t organize the protest rally. She was invited to speak. Along with others.

At least Palin has a forum of wide spread media attraction. I don’t see Romneybots or Paulinistas energizing the population.

I would go to a rally that Palin attended, or I would go to a rally even if she didn’t attend.

So what gives? American thinker......think outside of the box for a change.

If you Palin hating posters tried making a calm rational argument for your views, you might get some traction with Freepers.

As long as you all insist on doing nothing but endlessly posting these sort of Leftist style personal attack based, bile laced posts, no one is going to take your views seriously.

Here is an idea for this author. Try being an adult for a change. Don't go to an event where Palin has been invited as a speaker just to scream at everyone there your personal emotion based opinions about Palin.

If this author had acted like an adult, rather then a petulant brat angry because people did not mindless adore his personal political dogmas, he would not of been treated like a freak at this event.

This guy went looking for a fight and now is whining cause he got one.

I can’t add anything else to this article - it is EXACTLY how I feel right now - especially here on FreeRepublic.

We’ve been fooled so many times, and I’m afraid we’re about to get it again. It’s so true - ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

Well Mr. Shoemake, then you do not know Sarah's history and accomplishments as mayor, oil & gas commission, Governor. Probably best you not vote. The uneducated got us into this mess in the first place.

This is an article from "American Thinker”?
Sounds like a post on FR from one of the ant-Palin bots to me. American Thinker might need to watch the standards of the journalist they employ.

Cf course you do, since it validates your emotion based feelings about Palin.

How about ONE of you make a calm, rational argument against her for a change instead of just endlessly engaging in this sort of bile laced hysteric ad homine attack style politics?

My thinking is the author is just trying to warn folks that they, too, could be hoodwinked by a slick talking salesman on the right, just like the Obamabots were on the left. Once upon a time there was a fellow one time named H. Ross Perot who ran for POTUS. He gained a big following and the result was 8 years of Slick Willy......

Your PDS is showing. We need leaders today. They may not be the same people next year or next election, but if you are going to fight a Progressive, Populist movement, that lives by the branding and bumper sticker. You better not be shooting the horse you are riding. Voters, particularly 0bama voters, aren’t capable of grasping ideas that aren’t single syllable and in sentences more than six words. If we want to stop that cult movement, we have to not only spread question in their ranks, but provide them with a bright shinning object to grasp.

This writer is right, and he is wrong.

He is right about the dangers of investing so much emotion in one person, and he is wrong about denouncing Palin for the loyalty she owes to McCain.

Pretty idiotic statement you got going there. How many Tea Party meetings(if any) have you been to, and seen them turn round and sing hallelujah to Sarah Palin?
And who ever heard of someone inviting a speaker to their rally, just so they can trash that speaker?
Guy who wrote the article is an idiot.

The folks of the TEA parties ( not party) are a loosely based group of people agreeing to come together to let Congress and the gubmint know what their concerns are. It is NOT an organized political group. It is NOT offering ANY candidate for ANY office.

If you are that confused perhaps you need to rethink everything. On MOST issues Palin is on target. The fact that she is loyal to McShame can be viewed in a thousand different ways. It does not disqualify her from anything.

As far as I can tell the only ones that seem to be hankering after the nomination are McCain, Romney, and Gingrich.....those are the ones to fear

A simple question. Romney?

2012 is down the road a bit at this time, so why such anxiety over Sarah Palin?

The focus right now should be on dumping RINO’s, and Democrats from Congress.

I think it rather useless to be attacking potential Presidential contenders when they are the least of the electoral priorities at this time.

Dump McCain, and every other real, and existing RINO, and Democrat we possibly can about eight months from now in November should be the entire focus NOW.

We’ll have two years to go after Obama once we defang the bastard this November.

Does the author have any idea just how idiotic this premise is? Palin defeated the corrupt GOP establishment in Alaska to win the governorship. She is hated by the MSM to the point of them foaming at the mouth.

One can find fair reason to debate Palin appearing for McCain. But if you want to be taken seriously in that debate, one should not try to out-compete the MSM in their use of slug slime...
