Glenn Beck, the latest phenom of the Conservative Movement, jumps the shark nearly every week.
I have not been a fan of his. That said, I believe he is putting the movement in jeopardy.
You could spend a whole day surfing youtube for his latest outlandish behavior, but I do not fault him for that. In the entertainment industry, it is necessary to put on some sort of showmanship. I dont personally like his brand, but I would not bicker over personal taste.
The problem I see is that he is not uplifting. He is more libertarian than conservative, but his message always seems to end up with the viewer or listener commiserating with him. As if he has accepted being the shepard and just aims to console rather than inspire.
It is not a good path for someone who commands as great an audience as he has.
Beck should lead like a parent, allowing his audience to understand that while exposing what the administration is doing, he encourages them to want to do something about it. He does not do that, instead, he nurtures inaction. Sitting around and learning bad things then mourning for their country will drive people to drink and continue to want to commiserate with others who do the same and cycle continues. The only stimulating thing Beck has done has to do with driving people toward Ron Paul, which is just disgraceful, especially since the Paul followers are isolationists and security-challenged.
I take serious offense with his continuous drive toward a third party. That idea is reprehensible and he should know better, and has been pulled by the ear by many conservatives because of it. Yet, he continues. He seems able enough to repeat quotes from serious scholars and thinkers without telling his audience who said it first, but he hasnt an inkling how to listen to the message these thinkers give.
Many have wondered if he is just in it for himself. There is nothing wrong with being a capitalist, but to steal and put up fronts is no way to lead. The worst kind of capitalist is one who does not govern himself first. Perhaps that is why he doesnt inspire his viewers and listeners. He doesnt know how.
Look, I know he has had a past that included drugs and alcohol, and I do not fault him for that. People in glass houses and so on, but his direction is no longer humorous.
Being in management myself, I have always employed the idea of hiring your replacement, then staying one step ahead of them. It encourages healthy competition and drives the best to the top. Sarah Palin was just hired by Fox. If she is given any kind of freedom there, Beck is toast.
I watched the Constitution Town Hall that Hillsdale College gave a while back, and Dr. Larry Arnn said that in order to move the country to where it needs to go, which is toward the Constitution and the Founding, it is going to take a lot of thinking. Mr. Beck needs to start doing that.
I tried to put the quote from the other poster in italics. I guess I didn’t do it right.
Nope, stroking the ego of a looney tune would, maybe
He has followers? Or viewers?
I see the third-party 5PMer sycophants miss the bigger picture.
look tuffguy, my opinion is very well thought out, not like much of what Beck does—he has a leadership role whether he likes it or not, and he is causing problems
If you were trying to give us a solid-gold example of hypocrisy, then:
Bravo!
This kind of post is FreeRepublic at it’s absolute worst.
A post from a no-nothing obscure one-off blogger posting out of his bedroom closet, and because it posts up the same as an article from the Wall Street Journal, it is supposed to garner some kind of credibility.
This is like posting a recording of my cat meowing.
WTF?
Who gives a crap what this obscure nobody thinks about anything. We tolerate this on the threads, because it is an open forum where any and all contributions are solicited and we cull if for ourselves, learning who is credible, who is knowledgeable and who to ignore.
This thread is a flat “ignore”. I’m not even going to speak to the subject and barely got through a few lines before I realized this was nobody saying nothing.
Why was this post-worthy? It reads like a bad vanity.
Less than worthless.
do you go to a local R party meeting?
Obambi creates "Straw Men", Straw Problems/Crises
This effort to see Beck as a 'Straw Leader',and denigrate him is as transparent as Obambi is......
junknuts -— You are entitled to your opinion...
I’ve thought about it for a minute now and can’t figure out who you are referring to as looney tune. I’ll have to assume you mean me.
I think his blackboard sojourn is going to tank his ratings. He reminds me of a certain California late-night television evangelist and Stanford grad (now deceased). Californians might remember Dr. Dean Scott. The guy was an incomprehensible, self-absorbed demagogue.
I don’t care for some of Glenn’s theatrics but please enlighten us....just what has he said in the information he’s putting forward that is incorrect?
Ron Paul is a kook.
Right on. With all the blog posts nowadays FR has become quite caveat emptor-ish regarding the quality of the actual source material.
Not to worry.
Beck is only one of many voices on the path. I am sure leaders will step forward. It is just a matter of what we need next, an MLK or, after an economic disaster,a band of leaders like Jefferson/Washington/Adams et. al.
The awakening has only begun. The call to peaceful action to restore America is being made and soon will produce. The conservative mind is in the process of re-education and once it learns the way, the path will become clear. Exposure of the crooks and liars is only the first step.
Not to dispair Jenk
Glenn Beck describes the progressive movement flawlessly.
His historical perspective is accurate and enlightening.
No one else on TV is doing this.
He’s invaluable to conservatives trying to save the Republic.
One of many.
Isn’t it past your bed time?
junk,
In fact, he just ended the political career of Paulbot Debra "Funky Cold" Medina.
Third party...
No better way to keep 0bama in power.
