Editors note: Doug Edelman argues that while the eligibility question is valid and needs to be resolved, we should shelve the issue until after the 2010 mid-term elections. Glenn Beck spent considerable airtime on his January 4, 2010 radio program dismissing and ridiculing the “Birthers” and the idea that President Obama was born in Kenya. Of course this raised immediate ire amongst those who question Obama’s constitutional eligibility to serve in the office of President of the United States. Before a war erupts on the Right between the Constitutional Eligibility Challengers and their deriders, BOTH sides need to step back! The eligibility issue is a distraction, and as Beck RIGHTLY points out – could serve to advance Obama’s interests – at least at this point in time! The focus needs to be on Obama’s policies. ObamaCare can still be rammed down our throats. We must put ALL our energies into convincing our elected officials that NOTHING that comes out of Conference Committee can be acceptable and WHATEVER emerges must be voted down. Focusing on “Where’s the Birth Certificate” right now will simply waste energy and resources that we need for the healthcare fight – and failing in that arena will permanently damage our Republic. PRIORITIES, PEOPLE!

No one who enjoys reading and study as much as Beck does could conclude that the eligibility issue is nuts. And since when has Beck ever cared about appearing “crazy?”
No, the powers that be don’t want him on the subject. They’ve given him free rein to hammer away at what Obama “does” but they don’t want him going anywhere near what Obama “is.” Or “isn’t,” for that matter.
BTW, CC...you are a bright person and a proud conservative so why do you insist on using that God-awful DU smear word to describe yourself?

BS! I’ve been hearing for more than 30 years that the important, strident issues that could advance Constitutional governance (like fundamental tax reform) must take a back seat to the coming election cycle. (”You have to get me reelected so I can keep up the good fight!”)
The Constitution is more important than anyone’s election or reelection. There isn’t a soul in office now (except Al Fraken) who could not have supported the Constitution before the election and PREVENTED a Marxist usurper from taking the Oval Office.
SOMEBODY in DC needs put on their Big Boy pants and stand up for the Constitution NOW. It would all be over in one month. Then, AFTER we have a legitimate POTUS, we can reward those who upheld their oath of office.
Screw him. Strunk just joined Orly's QW cases in DC. Kreep is appealing a case against the CA attorney for failing to vet Obama on CA ballot. Apuzzo has a QW on appeal in 3rd circuit court of appeals. Donofrio is about to file QW on behalf of the Chrysler dealers. Then, we have the American Grand Jury filing for the American people to Congress and various Federal judges.
I am disappointed in Beck and O'Reilly. Maybe the up and coming Megyn Kelly will break the biggest story of the 21st century.

It will be fun to watch them jumping on the band wagon when this thing reveals that the birthers are right..
