Tea Party activists from across the country poured money into his campaign coffers and littered the blogs with pleas of support to Massachusetts voters for him.
But Senator-elect Scott Brown, a Republican elected just two weeks ago to the U.S. Senate seat long-held by Ted Kennedy, does not give them all the credit for his victory.
Barbara Walters, guest hosting ABCs This Week pressed Brown on his thoughts on the grassroots movement that has claimed much credit for his win.
The Tea Party movement was important to your victory. How influential do you think the Tea Party movement is going to be? Walters asked.
Brown rejected her premise.
Well, youre making an assumption that the Tea Party movement was influential, and I have to respectfully disagree. It was everybody. I had a plurality, he said.

He has been hanging out with McRino.
Don’t worry, this guy will be gone the next time a Kennedy decides to take the seat.
As excited as I was for Brown’s victory, he is turning me off more and more.
Common sense in MA had enough of the Kennedy “legacy.”
David Frum says the Scott Brown win means Tea Party activists must get in line to support RINOs.
He will serve his purpose to delay or derail Obamacare. Beyond that, it doesn’t much matter. He may see the light though after November’s tsunami. Then he better line up or get the boot himself in 2012.
Can everyone just relax and let Brown first take office before looking for ways to tear him down?
Yes, many of us from outside the state contributed to his campaign and helped him win. However, we must accept that his job now is to represent the people of Massachusetts, not the rest of us.
If he does his job well and listens to his constituents, he will not likely vote as we would wish all of the time. His state is historically very liberal, and if he votes as a moderate/conservative, we must accept that he is still a great improvement over his predecessor.
Were Brown taking national office, not representing one particular state, he might be beholden to us. But he’s not, so can we just let the federal system work and give the guy a break?
The people of Massachusetts spoke. I hope he represents them well, convinces them that a more conservative path is best for their state, and can get himself re-elected in two years. He has his work cut out for him, and he doesn’t need brickbats from us.
Give the guy a chance.
I was alerted to this story while listening to the local re-broadcast of the Laura Ingraham show....
She was apoplectic....
Coakley was worse!
Or after he leaves to serve as President Romney's VP.
Well said!
“Give the guy a chance.”
He hasn’t even been sworn in and he’s already losing his base.
Agree, good post.
What were you seriously expecting? This is Massachusetts we’re talking about here!
Yes, it’s way past time for him to stop talking.
Sure am looking forward to him in the Senate ... NOT.
I have to commend you on a very common sense post. I have to agree with Scott. It was a lot of people who helped get him elected. Yes, tea party activists were involved, but, not solely.
I hope the tea partiers aren’t turning into a “if you don’t give us credit, we’ll turn on you,” bunch.
He’s a vast improvement over Kennedy and far better than Coakley. Enjoy your win Mr. Brown. You deserved it.
As a supporter of Brown, I’ve not been to pleased with comments he’s made since being elected. He seems to be distancing himself from the very ones who helped get him elected. What’s the saying? If you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.
Absolutely..he’s being smart...why should be let ANYONE pidgeon hole him. He’s very, very smart. Good for him.
Of course he needs to thank all those who contributed to his campaign. I'm one of those that contributed, along with thousands of others who helped him win. Not just with monetary contributions, but time and effort, including the hard work of many in the tea party movement.
The attitude of some on FR is to always tear apart those who we are counting on to work for us and work with us. Scott Brown has promised to vote against the current versions of the healthcare bill, and now that he has won the malcontents can't stop trashing him for every little issue they stumble upon.
I guess Scott Brown will enjoy the same kind of negative attention that Sarah Palin has suffered on FR.
Get. A. Grip.
