There has been a lot of debate on the subject today, but I have not heard a reasonable argument for it yet.
She is loyal. Loyal to who? McCain or us?
She has to work the system? The system isn't working.

Because she might want to run for president in 2012. It's simple math: Campaigning for McCain will lose her very few conservative voters (a few hardcore Hayworthistas), not campaigning for McCain might appear self-serving and ageist and will lose her a lot of older, middle class independent value voters who reward loyalty. Voters she will need in a general election.
