By attaching herself to this for-profit outfit, Sarah Palin undermines her standing with her very constituents. Many tea party folks are shaking their heads after being the same people to hold up signs supporting Palin. Why not donate time at the Tax Day Tea Party? Why associate with a guy with questionable tea party cred?
And these questions beg a bigger question: Who is giving Sarah Palin advice on these matters? Certainly, it does not seem that people tied into the grassroots organizations are being sought for advice.
Sarah Palin said on Bill OReillys show, regarding this engagement, that controversy seems to swirl around her. Indeed, it does. She also said that she wouldnt be making money from the engagement, a sum rumored to be $125,000, but that the money would go to (presumably) her PAC and would help fund conservative candidates. Thats all to the good. Still, I cant help but imagine that participating in the Tax Day Tea Party being planned in D.C. on April 15 or some other non-profit event around the country would have been more in the keeping with the spirit of the movement....

“FReeper” AJKauf does NOTHING but flog this blog. Totally worthless, IMO.
..and in doing so, they are demonizing some of the fundamental institutions in this country- free association and free markets.
Oh okay... that makes more sense.
Yes. I am sick of hit and run bloggers. They add nothing to FR.
For those who aren’t familiar with Town Hall (I know you are but for the sake of everyone else) and why we get so much from PJ, it is basically a community like FreeRepublic. They however, have a front end PajamasMedia and PJTV that highlights some of their best works and writers. Some of those contribute are greats like Zo, Andrew Klavin, and Bill Whittle. They also have pretty much an open blogging system where anyone can contribute through Instapundent and xpress blogs. You are going to have a lot of good stuff come out of PJ as well as a lot of crap. They have been friends with FR for a long time.
Yup. I have no idea who this 29 year old Chicago libertarian is. None. I’ll trust Palins judgment over the kid.
I think it shows that every organization has differences of opinion as to how things should be. Thank goodness we all don’t think in total agreement.
That said I don’t see why they would concern themselves with whether an organization that is sponsoring/hosting an event is for profit or nonprofit. It takes money to run a show no matter the host. My guess is they have an issue with the organizer as displayed in their articles I’ve linked to and because of that they are now trying to take down those associated with the event.
Sarah is a big girl and can make her own choices, good or bad and fail or succeed on her merits. The event in San Antonio was cancelled indicating infighting again amongst some splinter group/indiviudals. http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/politics/entries/2010/01/11/tea_party_event_with_perrypali.html?cxntfid=blogs_postcards
Speaking of Erickson, I ran across his defense of sorts over at Red State. I nearly posted this as a separate thread but if any of you want to do the honor, be my guest.

I understand that and if you look it never post any followup to the the articles.
The articles are always posted in News/Activism rather than Bloggers/Personal but then maybe Pajama Media has special dispensation to do so. I know some blogs are given that right.
Between the infighting and people foolishly yelling “third party” we’ll be dead if they don’t get it together soon. I suspect some of this is coming from the left. If I don’t recognize who they are, I don’t care to hear what they say.
Let’s face it.
You can’t run a successful campaign and win without the funds to fight the massive Dem political machine.
Especially now, with the stimulus slush funds they have.
...just my opinion...
I suspect some of this is coming from the left.
Isn’t that what is happening down in FL where some guy is attempting or has registered “Tea Party” as a political party with the State Elections Board or whatever oversees elections down there. I think he was or is a democrat according to some article I read.
WTH are you talking about? This country needs more for-profits and less non-profits. If the for-profits fail to answer to the people, they fail.
Go Sarah!
WOW!
Looking at the poster’s history - http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:ajkauf/index?tab=comments;brevity=full;options=no-change
- it looks like all he or she ever does is post. Never a response, at least that I’ve seen.
So why should we trust his or her motives? We should not, IMHO.
Mostly because no one notified us to move it until a couple of minutes ago. Please remember to hit abuse if you think it is in the wrong location. We do let some authors and stories in Pajamas Media through news (if the author or story are important), however, most we will move to bloggers.
UNfortunately, I hold out no hope that this issue could be satisfactorily discussed here at FR, because it involves Sarah Palin.
So I have no confidence that I could get a fair answer here about whether the Tennesse TP show is better or worse than CPAC, or what the issues are.
Pretty much nothing involving Sarah Palin can be discussed at FR anymore with any degree of honesty and openness — the SP bias pretty much precludes it.
I am predisposed to believe that the group is fine, because I can’t imagine that SP would have booked into a group that wasn’t, especially when she was trying to make an overblown point about avoiding CPAC because of the ACU.
But I’ll have to go find discussion somewhere else to be sure. On all things SP, FR has simply become to biased a source to be trusted, which is a big loss for the conservative movement.
We could coast to victory in 2010 but I see too much turmoil. It just has to stop. There needs to be a clear voice on our side. I am running into noobs pushing 3rd party on FR. If we split, we'll lose.
It’s rather a meta-topic for this thread, but making a mistake because a lot of people make it doesn’t really educate people.
Also, organizations are not individuals, and I haven’t really heard too many organizations speaking, much less claiming they are paupers for their beliefs.
Non-profits actually pay salaries to their workers, including the people who run them, and you can become quite rich running a non-profit organization.
I used to get my electricity from a non-profit company, and they paid their workers and their directors, collected money from me regularly for their services, and whenever they found that they had ended up with more money than they needed to run the operation, they would send me a check-refund.
I have nothing against for-profit companies, I just have an aversion to misleading and inaccurate information.
Thanks. We’ll remember to ask from now on. :-)
