Bart Stupak is in the news, seriously looking into running for Governor of Michigan. Stupak points out that the Democrat Party is under fire and reminds us, "as you know, I dont do everything the party tells me to."
Oh really? How about the Stimulus Bill, Cap and Trade, and the HealthCare Bill?
Stupak as usual, says what he thinks will pass for whoever is in the room.
In the Politico story, he is called a conservative Democrat, which is untrue. He is pretending to call attention to the abortion wording in the healthcare bill, but that is as close as he'll ever get to conservatism. He is currently in the US Congress where the Stupak amendment is his latest brag, acting as though he is a champion for the Right To Life. I have reported on how Stupak admitted at a Cheboygan Town Hall that even if his amendment didn't stick to the healthcare legislation, he would vote for it anyway. If he believes that he is safe here in the First District, would he run for governor? If he runs for governor and needs to curry favor downstate as a "conservative" Democrat, why wouldn't the lower part of the state just vote for a real conservative?
Let's look at what Bart Stupak stands for and believes in. Global Warming, oh yes. Carbon Dioxide is a pollutant, yup. Spending a trillion dollars the nation doesn't have to save and create jobs, uh-huh. Coal, oil and natural gas are fuels of the past, check. The Constitution can be amended by the Supreme Court, right on. Everyone who doesn't like the government's healthcare plan should pay 2.5% fine, most definitely. Madison and Jefferson didn't know what they were talking about, you got it. Abortion should not be funded by taxpayer dollars, unless the mother says she was raped, or if she says that the baby's father was a family member, in which case the taxpayer will get sent the bill, Amen.
I am sure there will be somebody on the Democrat ticket that will have to run on abortion. All day abortion and then nighttime too. If that's the case, Bart won't run, because he knows he would be toast, because the Democrat Party just loves them some abortion.
I certainly hope he runs. I really do. It will be fun to see him try to gain favor from all the downstate feminazis.
Personally I hope he runs for governor. I don’t want him as governor but it would definitely put him on the spot with the health care vote.
Stupak is my congressmen. Ive met personally with him twice regarding The Fair Tax, trying to enlist his support.
Dont put any hope or trust in this man. Although an former state trooper & sometime attorney, hes not very bright. I’ve tried to explain the basic concepts of The Fair Tax to him several times and he never seemed to get it. I got a mix of blank stares & lame questions.
He is also a party hack all the way. Every town hall meeting I attended started with 45 minutes of Republican bashing.
I don’t think he’s currently in danger of losing his house seat.
I hope he runs, he is pessimistic and blunt about what he thinks the rats chances for holding the seat in 2010 without him are. “It’s a gone district, if I’m not in there,”
Rats rule the UP on a local level but the district as a whole voted for Bush twice and only narrowly for Obama (McLame didn’t contest Michigan) I think if open this year it’s the GOP’s to lose. Before 1992 and Stupak’s election the North Michigan and UP seat was the 11th district and it was Republican for but all 1 term (65-66) since the 1938 election.
Pro-life, pro-gun rats are a notable demographic in Michigan but are outvoted in a huge way in statewide primaries. With the current weak rat gubernatorial field he thinks he might have a chance at the nod.
I’d like to send a shout out to Politico.com. In their article about this they call Stupak “a conservative Democrat”. Dear Politico, lol you suck.
We should be favored in an open MI-01, but it won’t be a slam dunk. We need to find a Yooper to run, particularly if we want to hold the district in 2012 and beyond (since not every election year will be as good for us as 2010).
One thing that could help the Democrats hold the district is if Stupak wins the gubernatorial nomination and boosts Democrat turnout in the district. However, while you are correct that the RAT primary field is weak, there already is a pro-life Catholic running (I believe he’s the House majority leader, from the Detroit suburbs), and if the lunchpail Democrat vote is split the nomination could go to one of the ultraliberals running (I thinj the other two candidates are the ultraliberal mayor of Lansing and a black liberal).

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
