I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internets leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the Rathergate scandal, I thus became one of the Pajamahadeen that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.
Being a Freeper has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesnt matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.
Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals dont force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next years congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:
Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, Im more concerned about Harry Reids Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?
Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess Im going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. Bye, see you guys next year.
Well, I’m putting all RINO pushers on notice: Should a big government, constitution trampling, socialist/abortionist liberal RINO political whore like Romney get the GOP nomination I will take it as a declaration of war against conservatism and the constitution by the GOP and will conduct myself accordingly.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head there.
Well, we didnt pick Rudy and Hillary didnt win. And I for one, wish she had.
I don't believe Rudy would have beat either of them, for the same reason McCain didn't. To this day though, I still think Hillary would have been worse than Obama. She wouldn't have been so inept at the job that he's trying to do.
Yes, and they want to rule the world with their juvenile mentality. That’s why the country always goes to hell under their “”leadership””. It’s time to put the grownups back in charge before it’s too late.
FWIW. The poster -— si tacuissem -— who created that list of banned screen names, was also banned or suspended at some point thereafter.
xenohistorian just admitted that he is a neocon, it didn’t surprise me. They are the sort of “republicans” who see the GOP as an avenue to wealth. They figure that if they are rich enough they can buy the freedoms they won’t defend for us.

Because he wants to lead the other 66%, altho I've never actually called him that. I have called him much worse but I've been trying to be more charitable lately.
Core principles is just that. CORE It means you start out that way and end up that way. Changing one’s mind on purely POLITICAL issues is something else altogether.
CORE principles include THOU shalt not murder. Abortion is murder. You either support murder or you don’t. In that sense, there is no political issue involved. It is who you are inside.
Gun control is and has never been allowed by the Constitution. Not a little bit. Not alot.
You either adhere to the Constitution, or you don’t.
Committing a crime with a firearm moves that issue into the criminal catagory. Denying criminals weapons is one thing. Making criminal out of law abiding citizens is another. Any law against firearms beyond that is a CORE principle.
Healthcare is not a right. It might be a doctor’s DUTY to treat the ill, but it is not a right of every citizen to receive it. It is a matter of conscience. The United States has always had a conscience. Hardly anyone in this country is denied lifesaving health care, but government involvement will change that, and it has in many cases.
Maybe you should learn to tell the difference between CORE values and peripheral political decisions like what roads get built where. Never the twain shall meet.
If you can believe in your heart that abortion is wrong, you can’t publicly support it for superflous political reasons. That indicates to me that your CORE is made of jello and just as worthless.
superflUous
The Solution?
It's right before your eyes......
Best,
Chris
Amen to that. We have got to stay strong and focus on the target like a laser beam. We can’t let the RINOs have their way again this time. I am not even sure our country can survive another year of obama, and 2010 will tell the long term tale, I think, for what our chances are of reversing this. But I know for sure, it won’t survive past 2012 if we don’t halt the dem/RINO machine dead in its tracks NOW.
Just thin skinned....
JRBC - Did you notice that the FReeper who posted that list was then banned himself. Just sayin...
Interesting........
Thanks!
“Many of them fell on their own grenades, but the purges were real.”
Death by suicide is not a purge.
The vast vast majority of those people were posting on another site and collecting props and “merit badges” for getting banned. It was mass suicide.
Many of them were given a long leash and warned, yet they still demanded to be burnt by the light of their own abusive misdeeds.
In the case of Romney, it means the following: One should not feel compelled to support a baby killing, slick talking supporter of socialized medicine in order to defeat a baby killing, slick talking supporter of socialized medicine. I won’t vote for him.
LOL! You can barely claim that feat, "old-timer".
You’d be surprised. I’m in the poster-protection program.
I was one of the keepers of the list of banned names; When I stopped (or at least the last list I can find now) there were 27 names on the list; I know that at least a few more were added afterwards.
While some asked for it, and others got what they deserved, as the list grew and grew, well, it got so none of us who kept the list wanted to keep keeping the list. at some point the list was suspended; I don’t think anybody made a final tally of the dead.
I remember arguing for one freeper to NOT be banned; otherwise I pretty much participated more than I am now happy with, having re-read my posts.
Good find. Some of them came back for a while, and then were banned again. By that point in the thread I had left.
Romney’s in your head, but you’re the one that will have to deal with that. Your high ideals aren’t worth a “warn bucket of spit” unless there is a venue for them, that is my point and that is what’s missing. It’s going to take enough elected officials with those same ideals to turn the tide, we aren’t even close. We have to choose from the available talent and pompous rhetoric and slogans won’t change that. Lincoln started his war with generals that wouldn’t fight but eventually found ones that would.... Maybe we can.
Me, I’m just plugging along doing what little bit I can, hoping it is inching this nation towards a goal I think we both share. It’s a daunting task and I believe the only way it will be realized is the way it happened the first time, for the people of this nation to find grace in the eyes of the Lord. That means a spiritual, as well a political revival... anything else will result in failure. We all have to humble ourselves and ask for guidance.
I will now get off my soapbox, I feel compel me to climb on it from time to time.
