Lou Dobbs talks to Jeffrey Lord from the American Spectator, and why he is against an effort by the Catholic Church to bring down talk radio and hosts like Rush Limbaugh. Must see!!!!
I’m sure a lot of Catholics would like to see that happen. But you have to admit the Church would be raked over the coals for publicly denouncing people like Nancy Pelosi and kicking them out of the church. I know this to be true. At the same time, I would like to see communion denied to those who support abortion. That happens in some dioceses.
It really depends on the diocese. Some bishops are excellent, others are very liberal leftovers from the 70s who persecute their good priests and encourage heterodox theology. They are either retiring or being shuffled away by this Pope, so things will be a lot better in the future.
In the Church as everywhere else, there was a crisis in authority in the 60s and 70s and the bad bishops and priests felt they didn’t have to adhere to anything they didn’t like or that made them unpopular (opposition to birth control, for example). That is being corrected now.
As for the Jesuits and the Ursulines, there was also a crisis in the major religious orders, and most of the big ones are going belly up because they lost their faith and their calling. There actually are some good Jesuits, although they’re in the minority, but I’m not sure about the Ursulines. In many ways, the women’s orders were hit harder (because of a minunderstood feminism) so many of the old ones are dying out, although lots of new, good ones are springing up.
Holy Mary mother Of God please pray for us?.....Christ never once mentioned Mary as an intercessor for us.....Book of Hebrews states Jesus offered Himself once so that we can come boldly to the Throne of Grace in time of need through Him directly.......I think Christ Himself would call the Pope and all the other beautifully adorned leaders hypocrites as He did the publicans also....They enjoy the upper most seats and bear heavy burdens upon the people but lift not one finger of their own.....Christ said you have one Father in Heaven and to call no man on earth Father.....The Apostle Paul wrote if any man preach any other gosple than that which we have delivered let him be accursed........
Oh, it’s absolutely true that some of the old-line bishops are Democrats first and Catholics second. That includes some very high-ranking ones.
But there’s a change in the works and the new bishops are getting back to being Catholics first and shepherds of their flocks. Have you been following the Bishop in Rhode Island with his direct admonishment of the youngest Kennedy politician (Patrick?) to follow the teachings of the Church; he even asked him squarely why he was an enemy of Church teaching if he claimed to be a Catholic.
I think even some of the older bishops are going to wake up when the Church starts getting silenced by Dem pro-gay laws, though. It’s not going to be fun, but sometimes that’s what it takes.
FR....
On another post today a freeper noted being livid about a prayer for the passage of the bill for the poor and how they were livid. This is not a Catholic phenomena. It is happening in all faiths, The Rabbi on an anti gun rant post Columbine, Christians of all stripes constantly changes churches often over politcal issues. I speak to these friends regularly. Other phenomena, My Jewish friends have a joke that I can't remember about changing Rabbi's or firing them or changing Temples. Christian friends disilusioned by things such as how they are taking care of the building or managing the "business" end not to mention the political. Ironically, other than career changes or moving to another community, Catholics seem the most loyal to their home church or parish so the movement isn't as great. But you touched on a bigger issue...
. The priest said we should support the Health care for illegal immigrants
After healthcare the Dem's I read here are quiely going for amnesty via if I have the title right S-9 in the Senate. This is a one two punch. Make people dependent and then make them a permenant majority as the vote for you. Think critically, as they would say in latin, qui bono.... Who else benifits from this, I'll leave it at that as to not start another firestorm here.....
The Dem's/Socialist are playing Chess and the GOP is playing checkers, and the Dem's are moves ahead.
Soon liberty will be checkmated.
Fine. Hallelujah.
I get it, my friend.
Thank you. ;^)
Permit me to reiterate the question: "But what's this about the Catholic Church? What're they [RCC] allegedly trying to do? 'Take down' Talk Radio????"
Now I'm more than familiar with the RCC's Jesuits etc. The question is: What --if anything-- is the RCC doing right now that can or could be construed ideologically against the right wing's leaders, pundits, pols etc here in the USA?
What was Dobb's guest referring to?
To say the Catholic Church is trying to shut down Rush is a ccase of misplaced concreteness. Maybe some Catholics, clergy and lay, are trying to shut him down.
WRONG.
He explains that the Catholic Church wanted to put out its own statement separate from what the other churches said.
As explained elsewhere, the RCC wants open discussion of “hate speech” because of fears the church’s views on gay marriage will be construed as “hate speech.”
I wonder if maybe DD is thinkikng of the Maryknolls. They are VERY leftwing.
Here’s a weird suggestion: Why don’t we let this thread be about Catholic lefties and not degenerate into a general criticism of Catholic teaching and practice, huh? The notion of the intercession of the saints gets plenty of play on FR.
Here, here.
"...the RCC wants open discussion of 'hate speech' because of fears the churchs views on gay marriage will be construed as 'hate speech.'"
The RCC is afraid of what the Bible says concerning gay whatever, huh.
Has it not occurred to RCC leadership any & all accusation(s) represent an opportunity for the RCC to explain their POV; and, while they're at it, the Word?
Forces me to question why they accepted the very premise to start; insodoing, perpetrating the ruse while failing to recognize Its work of evil.
“WRONG”
yes you are.
the places and theology exists
What religion are you?
I’m a Christian
Me too.....what denomination?? Bet none.
Those that follow the teachings of the church know that socialism eventually strips the dignity and individual freedom of man.
Any talks given by Archbishop Fulton Sheen clearly shows how sound Catholic theology opposes socialism.
You need to re-evaluate this, SHrillary was addressing a Baptist Church, with her "I am no ways tired" speech Jerimiah Wright is affiliated with the Baptists.
Baptists have no central authority and can say and do as they feel. I am certain you remeber the brouhaha between the TBC and SBC several years ago about Homosexuals?
You're the best.
