I heard today that Sarah Palin has been invited to appear on Oprah Winfrey’s show.
After picking my jaw up from the ground, I ran back over my archives. During the campaign, Oprah had Obama on enough time for her to qualify as one of his campaign operatives. Sarah Palin didn’t even get a consideration much less an invitation. Perhaps it is because her forthcoming book, “Going Rogue” is a bestseller even before it hits the bookstores. This link tells the story. People cannot get it yet and it has blown every single Democrat book that could even be considered competition out of the water.
I disagree. Consider: Sarah had little time in the middle of a campaign, to prepare. She was further hampered by McCain staffers; she had to stay on McCain's message, etc.
Now she's free. She's her own woman here, with her own message. Indeed, that's what "Going Rogue" is supposed to be all about. She has time to prepare her mind, and is under no constraints about the message.
She's had time to analyze the mistakes of the past. And if she's going to wade into the waters of national presidential politics, she cannot be afraid of the sharks.
I just pray she has her BANG stick handy.
Oprah is more or less live, isn’t it? It’s taped before an audience so they can’t slice and dice her words like Couric did.
Hell, I don’t know. I don’t watch the show. But I will for one day. My impression is that it will be a live interview. Now, we all know how live can be live on one coast, and is recorded for the other. Often times with editing done in the process. It would be best for east coast people to DVR the show to have for comparison with the west coast show and call Oprah out on it if parts see the cutting room floor.
If I remember right, she quit before her term was up. I guess you could call that “retire”, if you are grasping at straws. I’m still upset with her doing that. To me, that was strike one, Oprah is strike two. She is running out of strikes if she indeed wants to run for president.
Well, maybe you will like another term of Obama better, to each his own.
Sarah accomplished more at her time as gov. for her state, from economy to energy, negotiating with Canada, etc.
re pipelines, involvement in ntional security with military and missle defense, etc. etc.
Would be candidates (govs.) wish they had her record.
Mitt left his state with MittCare early version to ObamaCare. Or, Huck, Gov. to a small, flyover state with the population of my county who just kept a seat warm.
Or, the Loon L Ron Paul, anti war, 9/11 truther.

FR is crawling with anti war Ron Paul loons.
They would rather have another term of Obama as some on FR state than a Republican
Palin never learns. Palin is on Obama’s hit list. Oprah is pals with the Obamas and she is a racist. Oprah is going to hit Palin right out of the box with her new book. This is like going to discuss her book with Curic. Oh well.

Actually the reason for Sarah bashing is because she is polarizing and hasn’t done anything. Notta, zilch, not one thing for this country except run as part of a losing campaign and quit her job. She might be the next best thing since Ronald Reagan or she might be George Bush Jr... you simply don’t know what you get with her.
Is she for more states rights as she claims now in her propaganda? Or is she more for pro-life being forced on everyone? Is she for a marriage amendment? Or would she prefer to leave that to the states? It cracks me up when I hear her talk about states rights and then in the same breath talk about these other issues. This just makes me think she’s more of the same.
I don’t think people on FR hate her, I think they’re cautious of her. Heck, she’s hot and speaks well, but she’s just unproven so far.
As for Ron Paul. I don’t particularly think we can play an isolationist game as he suggests, but we sure as heck don’t need to be as imperialistic as we’ve become. Name a decade since WWI we haven’t been involved in a war or “military action”. If (and that’s a big if) we need to fight, we need to pull out the carpet bombing or another Hiroshima... otherwise we don’t need to be in it.
The great thing about Ron Paul isn’t the few things we disagree on, it is his stance of choking off government in ALL areas because of the federal power grab that has been going on for years. While it won’t happen, if you attack on all fronts, you at least have the potential to make headway. Where does he stand on issues? At least he’s proven and quite clear on his stances. He might be more intellectual than most, but he’s far from a loon.

If you go by the definition, I’m not sure Ron Paul could be considered anything EXCEPT a true conservative.
As for another term of Obama, I’d hate to see that, but I’m also done voting for the lesser of two evils. At least when my kids grow old, I don’t have to explain why I allowed this to happen. I can tell them I voted against both parties and therefore can’t be lumped in with either party. The only other option would be not voting at all, but that goes against participation in one of our most sacred rights.
Both parties are driving us over a cliff. One is pushing on the gas and the other is allowing us to coast, either way we’re going over the cliff without ever trying to apply the brakes.
Sarah Palin spent eight years in city government, winning a seat on the Wasilla City Council in 1992 mostly thanks to her opposition to tax increases.
She went on to serve two council terms from 1992 to 1996. She was elected mayor of the fast-growing Anchorage suburb in 1996 and again in 1999.
Mayor Palin had a record of reducing property tax levels, increasing municipal services and attracting new industry to her town. During her tenure in Wasilla, she was elected chair of Alaska’s conference of mayors.
Next for Sarah Palin was service as chair of the Alaska Conservation Committee, a board which regulates the state’s oil and gas industry.
In this appointive position she began to gain what would become extensive and valuable knowledge and experience in the area of one of America’s most pressing issues - energy. It was in this job where Palin first really demonstrated the toughness, political courage and maverick spirit .
She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman.

As governor, Sarah Palin’s list of accomplishments lengthened rapidly. She used her line-item veto to cut $268 million from Alaska’s state budget.
She stood up to some of Alaska’s most entrenched interests, including three big oil companies (BP, ConocoPhilips, and ExxonMobil) who hold the lease rights to much of Alaska’s oil and gas wealth:
Once in office, Palin took an aggressive stance toward the oil companies.
Early in her term, she shocked oil lobbyists when she was so bold as to not show up when Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson came to Juneau to meet with her. Palin, after scrapping Murkowski’s deal, would not give Big Oil the terms they wanted, yet insisted that the companies still had an obligation under their lease to deliver gas to whatever pipeline Alaska built. She invited the oil companies to place open bids to build a pipeline, but they refused. A bid by TransCanada, North America’s largest pipeline builder, was approved by the legislature in August.
Palin also raised taxes on oil companies after Murkowski’s previous tax regime produced falling revenues in 2007, despite skyrocketing oil prices. Alaska now has some of the highest resource taxes in the world. Alaska’s oil tax revenues are expected to be about $10 billion in 2008, twice those of previous year.
BP says about half its oil revenues now go to taxes, when royalty payments to the state are included. Recently, Palin approved gas tax relief for Alaskans, and paid every resident $1,200 to help ease their fuel-price burden.
Some other Palin accomplishments include supporting and signing an ethics bill passed by the Alaska legislature and creating the Alaska Health Strategies Planning Council to find innovative solutions to effectively provide access to, and help reduce the costs of, healthcare.
As governor, Palin is commander of her state’s National Guard. Not content to merely sit on the title, she traveled to Kuwait to learn about her troops’ mission there. On the return trip to Alaska, she stopped in Germany to visit wounded soldiers in the hospital, an activity that Barack Obama did not see fit to engage in during his own overseas venture, blaming the Pentagon for his snubbing of the wounded.
More accomplishments: Gov. Palin signed a resolution in opposition to the FAA’s plan to increase taxes on aviation fuel, impose user fees and slash airport funding. Also, before Palin became governor, her predecessor Frank Murkowski had purchased a Westwind Two business jet for the governor’s use at a $2.5 million price tag, despite the objections from the state legislature and the public. Her first order of business after taking office was to put the jet up for sale.
Palin did keep the governor’s state-owned Chevy Suburban, but she got rid of the driver, saying it was wasteful for the state to pay someone to drive her around, since she was perfectly capable of driving herself. The governor’s gourmet chef also got changed from a full-time to a seasonal-only basis because Palin considered it a luxury she didn’t think Alaskans should be paying for.
Alaska is the only one of America’s states which borders on two foreign countries. Sarah Palin is chief executive of our most important energy state, one which lies only a few miles from Russian territory.
She has negotiated sensitive agreements on fishing rights and other matters to keep the peace up there. She’s also worked on important trade deals with other countries. She has received foreign heads of state and had discussions with them.”

And the interview is live, not edited or taped.
How is Palin helping Oprah?
She gets more publicity for the book and another chance to re-introduce herself to America in front of a key segment of the population.
There's no more McCain handlers here and edited interviews. She won't turn RINO simply by being on the show.
Meanwhile Oprah will have high ratings for a couple of nights but that's about it.
While you're remembering, why don't you fricking listen to her resignation and transfer of power speeches explaining why she stepped down, instead of knee-jerkingly repeating the liberal spin.
Your own last sentence tells “how will she be helping Oprah”. You’ve answered your own question.
I wouldn't be so sure of that. Oprah and Michelle Obama are privately feuding, from the cocktail circuit to blaming each other for Chicago not getting the Olympic Games. Having Palin on the show might be Oprah's way of get-back at the Obamas.
High television ratings that will last briefly isn't exactly "helping" Oprah. Those who never watched the show before Palin will be on it will go right back to not watching it again. Oprah is not going to attract new viewers unlike Palin who will convert new fans.
