California NRSC Tells Larry Elder Not To Run Against Boxer, Instead They Pick A Sure Loser

Some of the readers of FA might know of Larry Elder. Known as "The Sage of South Central" he hosted a radio show on our local LA station KABC for close to 15 years when he ended it last December in hopes of starting a political career. No man would have been better to challenge Boxer in my opinion.

But something funny happened along the way. The state NRSC and Senator Cornyn told him not to because they really want to support someone sure to lose, Carly Fiorina.

You know Larry Elder: the African-American, Californian, libertarian, popular radio host and firebrand. He’s been around for a while, and he’s a solid presence on the California media-and-politics scene. Elder is a serious name and presence among California Republicans. He just wrapped up his radio show. “Why,” you might ask, “doesn’t Larry Elder run for the Senate?”

There is an answer accorinding to many of Elder’s friends at the Republican Convention — Senator Cornyn and the NRSC told him not to.

Here’s the story that is circulating at the convention: Back in the spring, Elder went to Washington to sit down with John Cornyn and the NRSC, and ask for their support for a bid for U.S. Senate against Barbara Boxer. Cornyn and the NRSC told him the following:

1. If Elder chose to run, they would not support him. 2. The NRSC was already committed to supporting Carly Fiorina 3. The NRSC expected Fiorina to lose against Boxer, but expected her to tie up Democrat resources in the meantime.

So Larry Elder came back to California and did not run.

The NRSC expected Fiorina to lose against Boxer, but expected her to tie up Democrat resources in the meantime.

That is the fallacious argument. If the candidate is a loser, then the resources tied up won't be nearly as much if the candidate is someone who can give Boxer a run for her money. The more attractive the candidate, the more resources used by the Dems, win or lose. With the state California is in fiscally, a clear policy contrast should resonate with the electorate and make for a more strongly contested race.

I think people undersestimate how much anger there is against liberal taxing programs here. Boxer would probably still win, but Elder would’ve given a candidate for many to rally around. Plus, among the general SoCal public, I don’t know that Carly has that much more name recognition.

No way...she's got the safest seat in the Senate - hence her being the designated Attack Bitch.

Usually, when business is on hard times, the people there are subject to pay reductions as well. Most of the Congress should be paying us to be there, and not with our money, either.

Elder probably couldn’t win that state either. It would be very hard in modern day California for a real conservative to win a senate seat. Only a RINO like that pansy ex-body builder has much of a shot on a state level today. This ain’t the California of 40 years ago.

Spoken like a true loser. Running such flaccid candidates is what got us into this mess to begin with. We need only nominate and support articulate, passionate conservatives. This way, whether they win or lose, we still make up ground educating the electorate.

I mean, seriously, what is Carly Fiorina going to teach the electorate about conservatism? How is she going to pave the way to electing conservatives in the future?

"...they'll stick with the pig that can bring home the pork!"

Ahhh, that pig ain't bringing much pork home these days, and neither is the body builder. Together with DiFi, they've helped put CA in the dumpster. In case no one's noticed.

How about the conservatives offer a candidate with solutions to SOLVE the problems?

This time is a golden opportunity to run strong candidates presenting solutions. People are actually listening and looking for leadership and good ideas. Even moderate and independent voters are looking for solutions. The strategy should be running and expecting to win with strong candidates, even in moderate-liberal areas. An opportunity such as the present time does not come around too often. Looks like the NRSC wants to throw this away to the dems...again.

It’s Cornyn screwed up AGAIN. He’s doing it in Florida also by supporting Crist rather than Rubio. Embarassed that he’s one of our two RINO senators.

Here is a thought...

HOW ABOUT LETTING THE PEOPLE CHOOSE WHO TO RUN AGAINST BOXER??!!??!!!?!?!
IT IS NOT up to the GOP who runs against Boxer. It is up to the PEOPLE in the Primarys!!!!

Stop listening to what the GOP says. Vote for the CONSERVATIVE in the race! Forget what the party says! It IS NOT UP TO THE PARTY!
