Yesterday, Russian President Medveded announced that he had been assured by Israeli President Shimon Peres that they would not launch a preemptive attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. Today Deputy Foreign Minister, Danny Ayalon pointed out that the pledge was not true, and even if Peres was not a doddering old fool, the office of President is a ceremonial position and has no say in policy:

There’s no way Israel can give that kind of a pledge.
From all the possible explanations for Bibi’s “secret” visit to Moscow, what makes sense to me is Bibi’s attempt to establish a line of communications that when Israel is going to bomb Iran’s sites that no Russian personnel is present. Russians can’t care less for the lives of Iranians, and generally their government is very cavalier with the lives of its own citizens. BUT, if Jews are killing Russians - its not good, and maybe the most serious obstacle in the Israel’s preparations. A lip service of outrage is expected, a real anger should be avoided.

With at least several ten thousand Russians as military and probably nuke advisors (for the Russian systems) in Iran, there will inevitably be Russian casualties during an Israeli raid.
