Glenn Beck 1990: Politics of Retribution (Enemies Try to Start Rumor He Raped & Murdered Girl)
Examiner ^ | 9/8/09 | Michael Stone

Posted on 09/09/2009 10:51:26 AM PDT by nickcarraway

"Glenn Beck 1990" is an exercise in the politics of retribution - a spoof of Glenn Beck's outrageous assertions and obfuscations - an Internet meme engineered by those seeking justice - a theater of the absurd.

"Glenn Beck 1990" is short for "Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990", a web site dedicated to tracking the meme questioning Glenn Beck's guilt in 1990. Glenn Beck is not pleased, and is taking legal action against the website tracking the meme.

tech dirt reports:

It turns out that Glenn Beck isn't happy about this either. He's filed a domain name dispute over the domain name, claiming that it violates his trademark.

The Internet meme apparently began with a question on Fark: "Why haven't we had an official response to the rumor that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990?" The idea, which seems plain to many involved, is not to actually suggest that Glenn Beck did such a thing -- but to highlight this tactic of making a totally bogus rumor into "news" by stating it, and wondering why there hasn't been a denial. A bunch of folks have picked up on this claim and run with it (apparently greatly upsetting some loyal Beck fans), turning it into one of those Internet memes with legs.

Associated Content reports:

But lately, Glenn Beck's brand of rabble-rousing rhetoric and baseless inflammatory theories have begun to be aggressively met and countered. Like when Color of Change went after him for labeling President Obama a racist on the Fox News show "Fox and Friends."

Last week this Examiner was one of the first reporting on the story:

In a fast moving, developing story, shocking allegations have come to light that Glenn Beck is responsible for the rape and murder of a girl in 1990. Are these allegations true? Is Beck guilty? Various websites are offering conflicting points of view. Some claim it is a hoax. Many are suspicious because Beck has remained silent on the matter.

The topic is setting the blogosphere on fire, and threatens to go viral.

Questions remain. While Beck has issued no formal response, he is apparently taking legal action against the web site. Beck is not claiming defamation, nor libel, but a trademark violation. It looks like the story is not ending.

Indeed, perhaps it is just the end of the beginning, as we go down the strange rabbit hole that is Glenn Beck, in search of the politics of retribution.

This monstrosity is hosted by eNom hosting services (http://www.enom.com). In the event that you or anyone you know does business with them, I would terminate my business relationship with them, and let them know why.

That website offers a disclaimer at the very bottom, in tiny little print. Evidently, having lawyers after them forced them to admit this is all a pathetic joke. “Notice: This site is parody/satire. We assume Glenn Beck did not rape and murder a young girl in 1990, although we haven’t yet seen proof that he didn’t. But we think Glenn Beck definitely uses tactics like this to spread lies and misinformation.

Read the last sentence again. That’s the point. Read it a third time and ignore the name of the site itself, because anyone who believes that we’re trying to actually get people to believe Glenn Beck raped and/or murdered is *whoosh* missing the entire point. So don’t be dumb like a lot of people are. I greatly expanded this text because so many people *read* it, and *still* didn’t understand.”

It’s not true; but what is true is their own President Bill Clinton actually raped a woman; possibly more. Where is his punishment. Their very own Ted Kennedy left a woman to drown to save his worthless hide. He was never punished during his lifetime.

What screwed up people.

:Didn’t Barney pimp his “wives” out of his apartment?”

Well, yes, they were his boyfriends actually.

I followed a link to another board and found that a guy did a lot of research on this website, and it’s being apparently run by just one dude out of his parents’ house in FLA. So, the effect is that this guy has nothing to lose to civil action. He’s already, apparently, a known loser in life. If he’s a true believer, what a perfect tool the left has found, promote libelous, untrue rumors with little or no risk to anyone.

I'm not a lawyer, but I believe anyone complicit in promoting defamation/libel is also liable for suit. If an actual lawyer/attorney/judge can post opinion here, that would be appreciated.

just for fun, some one should go to one of those sites and all full of righteous indignation yell “beck did not rape and murder my daughter, he saved her from being raped and murdered by a maniacal pedophile. get the facts straight. you people should be ashamed of yourselves.”

Perhaps if he was using an internet connection in his mom’s basement, and she was paying for it,

she and he could lose the house to a libel action?

Hate to get that vicious, but the leftists are requiring it.

I think any man would turn gay after being married to Arianna.

I was typing as you posted, just read this -- I do not think this is enough to allow them an out, regardless the size of the font used. This shows intent, knowledge aforethought, as I just wrote, I'm not a lawyer but as a layperson, this looks to me more like an admission rather than a disclaimer. If so, if this actually does hang 'em, how stupid is that, eh?

Leftist Rule #3

When a conservative uses facts and the truth to discredit a liberal make up your own facts to attack the conservative.

That’s a good idea. Start a website called yep_Iwentthere.com or something like that. I have people that can find personal information like home addresses (and sometimes phone numbers) and other information about these freaks. Couple that with a Google Earth shot of their house for “information” purposes and maybe they’ll question how hard they want to push their Lefty lying agenda.

Maybe encourage local FReepers to get pictures of the people that come and go from those locations, too.

Oh, I think they are hoping people eventually hear it in a way they do believe it.

You know what? It doesn't make one iota of differences, their little disclaimer. They are still getting that 'rumor' out there into the light of day and that is what they want!

They and we know that is all it takes for millions of ignorant people to start spreading it around as if it were the gospel truth! Their goal achieved!

Look how many idiots think the things Tina Fey said were actually said by Sarah!

The rumors about Clinton is that he was supposed to have raped at least three different women. One at Oxford while he was a Rhodes Scholar there (and didn’t graduate), one other around the same time frame, and then Juanita Broaddrick. There may be others but I’m sure there are other FReepers who are much better versed in the details than I am. I’ll leave it up to them to expound on it.

I don't mean only the initial post, even if it's in his mom's basement, I'm talking about the article here, the admittedly fraudulent piece was printed in the Examiner in earlier edition, I've seen it posted from other sources as well. It is those media that I refer to, the old "two independent, reliable sources" rule has been long gone from journalism.

It's true that anyone can/may write anything on any site, anonymous as well. But if another entity picks it up, repeats it without checking things out, verifying accuracy, especially in the face of what ElainaVer contributed here a moment ago, it stands to reason that they did not exercise proper judgment, did not investigate, verify the source. It would be hard to claim absence of malice in this case.

Lies worked on Palin, so they are still lying. Nothing new here. The libtards always use lies to respond to threats from the truth.

That's what a law suit was designed for -- Gov. Palin did not have cause because Fey did a parody of her on a stupid TV show, it was/is up to us to set people straight when they get that wrong. But when the kindergarten teacher-yahoo attempted to lie, defame her character, that's when the legal knives got busy. Same here with Glenn, he's going to be subject to SNL parody, he said it himself, the first show this year is going to have some idiot portrayal, get ready. But this is actionable, it is not a parody, the content and the intent the important difference.
