If anyone in the Obama Administration wanted to do the least bit of vetting into the background of Van Jones, they could have started with the archives of the SFGate, where you can find the history of Jones' radical activism as a defender of criminals against Bay Area police, a supporter of cop killer Mumia abu Jamal and a radical supporter of America's enemies.

In short, Van Jones has always been on the side of the perpetrator, be it criminals or al-Queda terrorists.

His defense of Islamofascist terrorists didn't just begin after September 11, 2001. In this August 1998 Chronicle story, he spoke at a San Francisco rally after then-President Bill Clinton launched his sole action in response to any al-Queda attack on America by bombing an asprin plant in Sudan and missile strikes on terrorist training camps in Afghanistan where Osama bin Laden was rumored to have been (and was tipped off, thanks to the Clinton Administration notifying Pakistan of the incoming missle strike).

I don't get why anyone is suggesting that Van Jones' previous radical activities somehow "have been overlooked" when he was hired by this administration. If anything, these are simply more experience points for whatever job that 0bama wanted to hire him for.

Interesting misunderstanding of the definition and dangers of a true democracy. If 51% of the population told blacks to sit in the back of the bus and they had to regardless of any civil rights or Constitutional arguments, then that would be a true democracy. A lot of the limitations in the Constitution are there not only to protect against an unrepresentative, run-away government, but also to prevent a majority for using the government as a tool against a minority.

Personally, I think the whole “why wasn’t he vetted better” argument doesn’t hold water. Jones was picked exactly because he was the type of person Obama has surrounded himself with all his life (Rev. Wright, Fr. Pfleger, Bill Ayers, etc.)
