Public Health Care not working out so well for 4000 British Mothers

As Rush Limbaugh said on the air today, forget about death panels, Great Britain has birth panels. Here's the story from the Daily Mail: Bed shortage forces 4,000 mothers to give birth in lifts, offices and hospital toilets

Thousands of women are having to give birth outside maternity wards because of a lack of midwives and hospital beds.

The lives of mothers and babies are being put at risk as births in locations ranging from lifts to toilets - even a caravan - went up 15 per cent last year to almost 4,000.

Health chiefs admit a lack of maternity beds is partly to blame for the crisis, with hundreds of women in labour being turned away from hospitals because they are full.

Rationing of all types is an inevitable result of any public health option. No other result can come from it. The effects can be seen in every aspect of public health care. It is seen in child birth, it is seen at the dentist, and it is seen in therapeutic care. And yes, it will be seen in something (call it something other than a death panel if it makes you feel better) that ultimately will decide who does and does not receive life-extending treatments and operations.

And the cost of awful health care will inevitably continue to rise and rise. Take a look at the money quote...

Before we get up in arms about this, we must remember that giving birth in a hospital is a relatively modern idea...

Actually quite a few more women in Britain are actually opting for home births these days. I have a friend whose daughter has had all three of her children at home.
