I am not a big car buff. I can certainly appreciate all manner of vintage models, high-end machines, and cool designs, but it is not in my blood. But like anything people are passionate about, incidents that seem to be no-big-deal to ordinary folks are positively painful for aficionados. And while we thoroughly shredded the economically perverted and ridiculous Cash for Clunkers program in an earlier post, and showed a video on how they kill these cars, I came across this one and had to post it.

That car didn’t appear to be too bad and it didn’t sound too bad (before they killed it). Worst case scenario it could have made someone a nice project car.

I am reminded of the Happy Days episode where Fonzie worked on someone’s car and learned that they had NEVER had the oil changed and he got choked up with hurt and anger.
There is no such thing as a “clunker” Corvette. It’s a work of artistry in mechanical design. They might as well as throw a brick through a stained glass window.

If all you did was part that Vette out, it was worth thousands as it was. What a waste. What an additional and completely avoidable additional blow to the economy. We won’t see the real effects of this program for years, but the Law of Unintended Consequences certainly applies here...
My neighbor had his Z28 Camaro euthanized and got a new Chevy HHR. I couldn’t believe it. He’s had that car forever, but I imagine he came out pretty good on the deal.
