Excuse the vanity but you guys MUST hear this. As you know if you have read any of my posts, I use to be an attorney. Well, my friendly local police department just made a HUGE MISTAKE and I can assure you they will pay for it. I post it here, not for sympathy but to show just how eroded our rights have become.
did you just threaten to beat someone?
anyway, i sympathize with your plight as far as your side is the only side we have heard. the only thing i find funny is your phrase, "...six armed officers..."
what, exactly, did you expect? should they have left their guns home? that type of writing is a scare tactic used by the media to demonize guns and the police.
if accurate, i hope you get what you deserve from the town/dept.
“You won’t be on FR long.”
It’s called sarcasm. Get a life.
Sarcasm should have a humorous edge.
What you posted did not.
Get better at it or post a /s tag.
Synopsis (as far as I can tell):
An accusation was made against you accusing you of stealing money.
Police came to your house to ask questions and you avoided giving them any information.
You became beligerent with the police, rather then clearing up the matter.
Rather then waste their time and resources (paid for by the tax payers), the police took you in.
Same question applies to you that applied to Professor Gates, if you were right, why didn’t you just cooperater and clear things up politely?
If the measures I advocate were enacted the rogue and negligent LEOs would have their personal assets and pensions subject to civil litigation. Facing destitution is a very sobering influence.
You said — Same question applies to you that applied to Professor Gates, if you were right, why didnt you just cooperater and clear things up politely?

You wouldn’t be following your lawyer’s advice if you did that... :-)
See post #124...
An accusation was made.
SIX policemen came to my door to "investigate" with the intention of arresting me.
I was NOT belligerent (this is your total misreading of the story)(and you misspelled belligerent- Look for the little red squiggly line under your words).
The Police illegally took me in when I asserted that I did not have to cooperate with their investigation until I consulted counsel.
I did clear things up politely. You just can't seem to grasp the story. After they forced their way in, and were caught flat footed by my evidence they were embarrassed and did not know what to do.
If you don't understand the story, at least don't show it.
The way you put it does sound funny. The emphasis should be on SIX the fact they were armed adds to the attempt at intimidation. ONE or TWO officers would have been plenty if they weren’t trying to bully me.
Some would say you wise up :-P
I moved to another state and never got back on the bar. I started another company.
btt
Thank you very much for posting about this incident. We all need reminding, over and over, how important it is that we protect our rights and your step-by-step details are incredibly helpful. Sorry you’ve been ragged on so much on this thread. The truth is almost always quite obvious, and your post shines with it.
You are an attorney. I am not. I am not totally comfortable offering you advice, but I have a friend who had a complaint against authority successfully litigated.
He filed it as a Civil Rights case, and as a result, the judgement awarded was not subject to taxation.
Just a thought.
There are many neighborhoods in the U.S. where this sort of thing is as common as mail delivery. Those folks would get quite a chuckle out of all of this.
It is kind of funny how some people make assumptions like I must have been belligerent to the police or that I got arrested on purpose. Most people have been supportive though. Thank you for your post.
I would say by your tag line that you have too much common sense to be a lawyer in these modern times.
Thanks. One of these days I may become a lawyer again. We need lawyers with some common sense to corner government bullies. My tag line is a subject that just irritates me. I don’t know if he was born in the US or not, but I do know that he has the power to end the birther movement in a split second and hasn’t. One has to wonder why.
Some say it is a tool to stike a them at a later date and some say he can’t produce it. There is so much hidden truth still uncovered with the Clinton’s so we may never find out.
Hey! You forgot to add, "And I for one welcome our new thugocracy!".
When they show up at YOUR door and trample on YOUR rights, I bet you'll drop your pants and "baa" like a sheep!
You loser! Go back to DU where you belong!
“You loser! Go back to DU where you belong!”
Cry me a river...
I said the officers responsible for breaking the law should be punished by the law.
If the police showed up at my door asking questions, I would answer the questions. Cooperating with the police investigating a crime doesn’t make me a loser.
You are no different then obama’s friend Mr. Gates. He calls people racist and you call them losers... all for answering questions.
The cop probably got mad that this guy wouldn’t cooperate and took it to the next level. The cop should be punished if he/she broke the law. But this wouldn’t have happened it the guy just answered some questions and denied he STOLE THE MONEY! After all, the cops were there to investigate a crime.
Go back to the rock you crawled out from under.
Nonsense.
