Sarah Palin finally came out and made her stance on illegal immigration clear. She is pro amnesty for illegal aliens. In an interview to Univision she stated unequivocally that she is for a pathway to citizenship. In the same interview she says she is against amnesty for illegal aliens. Have your cake and eat it to, I think that is called.
Back on the same day that John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential candidate I started investigating Palin's past on illegal immigration. I invited others to send in anything they found. There was nothing on the record. Many did write in and said that Laura Ingraham said that one time she was talking to Palin and she said she was against amnesty. That was the only statement anywhere that could be found.
Now we know that she is against amnesty, all the while she is for it with a "pathway to citizenship".
You see this is what is wrong with these people. They think they can be on both sides of the issue at once and that simply isn't possible. You are either against amnesty or you are not. If you are for a pathway to citizenship for those who have illegally entered our country then you are pro-amnesty as you have virtually absolved them of all of their illegality.
People have bashed me for questioning "the Palin". They wrote in to say that obviously she is against illegal immigration. This was all wishful thinking and like so many other issues that the politicians have avoided, until they take a clear stance don't assume anything (and even then, if they're only saying it look at their record).
Sarah Palin is in lock-step with John McCain when it comes to amnesty for illegal aliens. Her answers are almost indistinguishable from McCain's, Obama's or even the most pro-illegal alien congressman in the house, Luis Gutierrez, for that matter.
Read it and weep.
Univision
Univision: Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska? Sarah Palin: I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.
Univision: As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported? Sarah Palin: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.
Univision: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants? Sarah Palin: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
Univision: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants? Sarah Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.
...
Univision: What is your strategy? How are you planning to win the latino vote? Sarah Palin: I will tell you, I wish that there were more hours in the day so that we can get out there and to more of the communities with such the strong Latino vote that is out there and really tell them that we desire to work for them. We are asking them to hire us and let us work for them.
Sickening we can't find a real leader in this country who cares about Americans first.
“Univision: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
Sarah Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.”
UH?
Sounds more like she was loyal to her running mate and presidential candidate to me. You can't go about trashing your running mate in a presidential election, with just 2 seeks to go to the elections..unless you like committing suicide.
Look, Cheney never really agreed with Bush on amnesty either, but then as vice president, he couldn't very well come out and say that. And Cheney is one of the toughest, most principled guys I know.
OK it is late. Is this person writing that Palin was taking a consistent position as McCain when she was the VP candidate?
It begins that there is nothing on record other than 3rd party hearsay.
Should Palin have taken an opposing view to the top of the ticket?
Who is that person in your opinion?
More pro-illegal hypergole. No one is sayhing "off with their head." And it's far less complex than you're trying to make it. The Kenyan/Lebanese couple would have to decide which of their native lands to live in. No families have to be separated. Parents should take their children with them.
People sell their assets and use any proceeds as a starting point in their homelands. Any any who are as established as you say should have quite a nest egg from their illegal exploitation of the US economic system.
People who came here illegally made their own bed, and it is not the responsibility of US citizens to make them whole and to ease every complication when they end their illegal residence in the US.
I'm not opposed to some resettlement funds for those who truly need it.
Obviously, Juan McCain didn't get the memo until only recently.
Don’t blame Sarah Palin. Blame McCain or the GOP establishment.
Think of why this story is being resurrected now. The Politico poll did not go well for Romney, did it; and Sarah’s statement on her Facebook has sent shock waves throughout Obamaland.
24 October 2008. Why so late in publishing this?
There are those who claim to be conservatives who find warts on the fairest princess. Whether the issue is abortion, illegals, gun control, health care, or whatever, they find an issue with which to disagree. Some may be truly sincere but others are trolls seeking to divide the conservatives and by proxy, the Republican Party.
The illegal issue is a complicated one. First off, plain and simple they are in this country illegally! No question, no issue!
Yet, many have been here so long as to have grand children born here. Not all are on welfare or seeking freebies. Some have formed successful businesses and have been strong contributers to our society. Many are more in favor of our founding principles than some true native born Americans. Many seasonal employers, farmers especially, are dependent on them.
Bottom line, it is not a cut and dried issue!
For conservatives to split over some one saying that we need to find a path for citizenship for some of these people, is ludicrous! We do need to find a reasonable path to citizenship, one that does not reward the unworthy but gives the contributers a chance.
Stop letting One Issue people divide us!
Oh, circa 2008 huh?
This is the kind of cock'nbull double speak that made conservatives capable of critical thought, recoil.
That is not correct, I want all of the thirty million illgals deported last week.
I’ll keep this short and sweet because its late:
You will never send the majority of the illegals here now home. Insisting on that, and trashing anyone that doesn’t agree with you is/was a disaster for conservatives. We know that for a fact, so quit it. Palin is the brightest conservative star, and trashing her trashes us all.
I was right before, and people like you were wrong.

For all the folks that are ready to throw GWB and the Republican party by the wayside , you have to acknowledge what that would accomplish....maybe not immediately, but certainly if you set the stage for any Dem President in 2008. If these sacrifices are worth it....go ahead.
Bush’s tax cut would be revoked.
His No Child Left Behind would be gutted (except for the money to the schools) guaranteeing ignorance from public school graduates.
The Medicare plan would drop private company’s participation and be totally government run and funded, just as Gore wanted.
There would be no chance for additional conservative judges to be appointed for any level, much less the Supreme Court.
Repeal of Roe v. Wade would be impossible.
Illegal immigrants would be given amnesty and citizenship, guaranteeing Dem control of many southwestern states. No wall, no nothing!
America would turn tail and run from Iraq, making OBL very happy, and letting the rest of the Muslim world know we are the wimps OBL says we are.
Iran will get a nuclear weapon.
Israel would be abandoned in favor of Palestine.
No new refineries, no nuclear plants, no drilling for oil or gas in the continental US would be allowed.
Labor unions will be running homeland security.
We can watch while every moonbat charge of the last six years is investigated by Congress....tying up the Administration and the military testifying.
No true conservative could allow a Dem win in November

Continuing to trash Republicans over this is nuts when Pelosi and Obama are ruining our nation as we speak. They will do more damage in the next 18 months than immigrants could in decades.
“So she is a liar than. Either she is a liar, or she supports amnesty”
Duh...being the Vice President requires you to displace your policies with that of the President. You support the President.
That’s basic Civics class stuff at the Middle School level.
.
Wait a minute, are you implying she disagreed with her running mate on one of the most threatening, violent, dangerous, and economically devastating issues facing America?
ICE does that every single day, and are throwing illegals into jail right now as we speak. It happens to be the law.
On oh, Mexico does even worse with illegals from Honduras, who are regularly raped, beaten and tortured by Mexican immigration officers and other Mexican law enforcement people. Mexicans are a good one to talk, given how inhuman Mexicans are to illegals in their country.
These people hate Republicans...all you have to do is watch their threads.
If Palin remains a Republican, they will hate her too, and come up with some reason for it.
I agree.
Coming from a parish that has many people in line to come to the USA, and detesting those who “cut” in line, I don’t see where she is promoting Amnesty.
Are you serious? Someone takes a stand against ILLEGAL immigration and you say "give it a break" and compare that ILLEGAL immigration to the FOUNDING OF OUR COUNTRY?!?! Have you lost your mind?
You said Having a hard line on illegal immigration should have happened ages ago."
You are correct there.... but then the rest of your comment suggests that doing the right thing has a time limit on it! We should have taken a stand against an illegal invasion, but we didnt so lets give in and comprise? WOW!
Sometimes the foolishness I see here astounds me.
I didn’t like it when Reagan granted amnesty in 1986 and apparently he later didn’t either.
