In a normal world, you take your trade-in to the dealer, he buys it from you, and then he resells it at the auto auction. It is the most efficient allocation of resources for the product. In this case, the government buys your trade-in and, instead of using it for its full value, it destroys the vehicle.
Don't get me wrong, I won't stay awake at night worrying about inanimate objects, but there seems to be something unsettling about this state sanctioned "autocide."

I thought the greenies believed in recycling everything??
Destroying viable automobiles and their parts hurts the very people who cannot afford new cars........the poor.
Since liberals champion the causes of the poor this is another contradiction of their intentions to be helpful.
For every knee jerk reaction, there is another undesirable reaction.
But the UAW owners of Government Motors are getting another government job subsidy. Bright move O. Government dependency just got a little boost. courtesy of the middle class taxpayer.
Yeah, they coulda parked that in an alley and given refuge to several bums! What are these people thinking?

Did you watch the video? That was a nice looking Volvo. I’d love to have it.
Perfectly good Muddin vehicles. Who wants to take a 2004 4rinner out on trails hunting? No one. 1996 yea, that works.
No, I didn’t....I just think it’s a waste to demolish a perfectly good car. How many times on TV have we seen families with children, struggling to make ends meet saying “I can’t afford a car....blah blah....I need to get to work, etc.....” It goes to show you Democrats and liberals are all show, no substance and full of bullshit.
Watch the video — it really is a little disturbing to see them kill a nice looking car for no good reason.
They routinely (daily, hourly, etc. I don’t know the actual rate) kill things far more precious than a nice looking Volvo.
How can anything so wasteful be any good at all? /rhetorical question
What’s next, burning down mcmansions?
I can't. You wouldn't believe how much gas mileage a horse-drawn chariot gets. I'm not sure if the 1033 yr-old models will still draw as fast as they did when new, and there's probably a few reconditioned parts on them here and there, but you've got to admit that in some cases, depending on the horse's diet, they may actually be creating additional "gas."
LOL OOPS! lol lol lol
Not to mention the cleaning! ACK! lol
They k-k-killed Bambi!
Your last sentence...LOL!
I’d like to see a prius haul hay...
