Im glad I wasnt the only one, because Id begun to worry that the 2 to 3 Knob Creek to Folgers breakfast mixture was taking an early toll on me. Apparently it was not just my imagination, and as Steve Benen points out, Liz Cheney has been on virtually every television channel in the nation twenty-four hours per day for the last two weeks. I know that I personally caught her on CNN, Fox, ABC and MSNBC myself. And, as Benen points out, her visit to Morning Joe amounted to more than a guest interview.
Thats 12 appearances, in nine and a half days, spanning four networks. (On todays Morning Joe, Liz Cheney was on for an entire hour effectively becoming a co-host of the program.) And this is just television, and doesnt include Liz Cheneys interviews on radio or with print media.
The first thing to note here is that there is simply no valid criticism to be leveled at Liz Cheney for making these appearances. Like any other American who is interested in politics, shes entitled to get out there on the soapbox and air her views with whoever will have her. And who doesnt like defending their dad?
No, the real question here is what the networks are thinking, trotting out the daughter of a former VP this often and in such high profile appearances? After all, much like Hillary Clinton in 2000, what does she really have by way of credentials aside from her last name? Really not much more than John McCains daughter, aside from one position which she only got by virtue of her last name anyway. Yet both of them are being foisted off on the media consuming public like it was an exclusive interview with the Ghost of Elvis.
The major issue I have with Liz is her manners (or lack thereof) in the interview chair. Her appearance on Morning Joe, for example, was a classic example of the other spots she has done. A question is asked and Liz is given virtually forever to repeat the talking points issued by her father. Then a countering argument is asked for from another speaker. They manage to get three - or at most five - words out of their mouth and Liz jumps in, shouts them down, and begins parroting the same points over and over again. And the hosts pretty much uniformly fail to challenge her on her lack of understanding of debate. Its like the worst of the abortion debates youve ever seen where the speakers just shout over and over, seeming to feel that their view will carry the day if only they can stop the other side from being heard at all.
As an aside to my Republican friends, I hear plenty of complaints about the young McCain daughter hitting the media circuits, but not so much about Liz eating up the air time.
Whats up, MSM folks? How is this a hot get for the morning circuit?
Liz Cheney has a law degree from the University of Chicago, and was employed as an official by the State Department. She is extremely knowledgeable and does an excellent job in representing the Bush administration’s accomplishments and policies on the WOT.
Too bad the writer of this article can’t appreciate this fact. How would SHE act if her father and his work were attacked to the extent that Ms. Cheney’s dad has been maligned? Liz is holding back and IS polite, IMO.
And besides the fact that Liz and Meghan McCain are both daughters of famous people, they have NOTHING in common. Meghan’s dad was NOT elected by the people; Liz Cheney’s dad was.
Personally I like her getting out and Defending her dad! She is a lot better than McSame daughter!
the Bush-Cheney squad needs to
get off the stage.
just my opinion
Personally, I am very thankful both Cheney and his daughter are speaking out. They both have grace under pressure during interviews.
Americans need to hear them as they counter much of the “spin”.

Waiting for your reasons. Please bring them to the fore.
LOLOL...........more experience, more intelligence, more patriotism than our America hating president.
Dhimmicrats have “mommy” issues and cannot abide a strong woman (especially a strong Conservative woman).
Liz Cheney is quite qualified as is Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann.
2010 and 2012 are going to be the years when the Conservative Women get elected to office. Thank goodness Conservative men are comfortable around strong Conservative women.
the lamestream media is going to keep
Bush-Cheney et.al. in the spotlite,
just to keep people’s attention
on Republican dirty laundry.
and to keep people’s attention off of legitamate
political debate, and away from giving attention
to up and coming GOP candidates.
with that said, I don’t have a good suggestion
as to how the former B.C. administration should.
defend itself.
I'm certain they'd be happy to if the RATs would drop their ridiculous "torture" charges.
THANK GOD someone is finally refuting RAT lies that have gone unchallenged for 8 years.
I’ve seen her on a bunch of those shows and she was dead on, she allowed everyone to speak, and she made sure she got her points across. I have no idea what that writer is talking about.

I think Dick Cheney knows how to defend the previous administration very effectively and his efforts are tying the current administration in knots. And, I don’t think Cheney is done yet, do you? Aren’t you happy?
Assuming the interviewer is an adult, that person should be able to act as an interviewer and ask another question. Sounds more like an indictment of the interviewer than the interviewee.
