Let’s prosecute everyone, Republican or Democrat, who allowed these techiques. The U.S. prosecuted the Japanese for waterboarding and Reagan did the same when he prosecuted a sheriff who engaged in that method. Torture clearly violates the law.

There is no relation to this method that we use - our type of boarding only gives you the feeling that you are going to drown - it doesn’t actually cause harm. During World War II, water cure was among the forms of torture used by Japanese troops (especially the Kempeitai) in occupied territory. A report from the postwar International Military Tribunal for the Far East summarized it as follows:
“The so-called ‘water treatment’ was commonly used. The victim was bound or otherwise secured in a prone position; and water was forced through his mouth and nostrils into his lungs and stomach until he lost consciousness. Pressure was then applied, sometimes by jumping upon his abdomen to force the water out. The usual practice was to revive the victim and successively repeat the process.” [19]

As for the Sherriff, was it a Texas sheriff’s job to interrogate captured terrorists withholding secret plans to murder Americans? No. He was prosecuted for the same reason that it be improper for him to use surface to air missiles to blow up a neighborhood full of crack houses.

Some people in the Obama administration would consider you a terrorist for even writing on this site. in their view, the “situation” might merit treatment for you.
