Fox News has confirmed the rumor first posed on Human Events. Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter has announced that he will run for re-election as a DEMOCRAT, RINO No MORE.

Several officials say veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania intends to switch parties, advancing his own hopes of winning a new term next year while pushing Democrats one step closer to a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority. The sources said an announcement could come later in the day—or Wednesday. The officials who provided the information did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss his plans. The reason for the switch is that Senator does not believe that he can win the Republican nomination.

Specter lost the support of many of his constituents and his Republican colleagues when he switched sides on the famous porkulus bill creating Americas largest deficit ever.

I’m not sure this is allowable under Scottish Law.

Can he win the Dem primary? There must be lots of ambitious Dems not willing to step aside so ole Arlen can get another term at their expense.

Now that the RATS has their 60 Senators the time has come to throw all the RINO’s out of the party. Time to reorganize and start now to select conservative Republicans for the 2010 cycle. It is time to continue running down the RAT party. We need to show what is left of Americans that the RAT communists party will destroy America.

Sphincter switched to save his job. Exactly what I'd expect from an unprincipled sphincter like him.

Can Toomey win in the general, given how blue PA has become? Not trying to be confrontational, Specter is a disaster, but I wonder if this seat is just a lost cause.

The question now is: Will Rick and W still go to the mat for scottishlaw when he's running against Toomey in the General rather than the Primary?

BTW, one consequence of this will be to have Obamacare crammed down our throats with no debate, much less a filibuster.

Just a formality. He’s always been a democrat. Now, take Snowe, McCAin and Collins with you and stop these Rino’s from further destroying what is left of the GOP.

What does Specter expect to get from being a Democrat? It's not like Leahy will move aside and give up his Judiciary Committee Chairmanship.

Will Republicans remove Specter from his committee assignments? Do Democrats have enough slots to keep Specter on the committees he's currently on now?

Yes, he can. Specter may still be facing a fight for the Dem nomination, and he isn’t exactly the most popular guy among either party in Pennsylvania. Would you trust him if you were a Dem? It will take a good campaign by Toomey, but he can win.
