Karl Rove Tells British TV GOP Can Rebuild Winning Majority in 4-8 Years - Video 3/2/09

Here is video of Karl Rove talking with British TV Sky News, where he said that President Barack Obama is "diffident" when it comes to the details of the massive legislation he is pushing through Congress. Rove cited several examples where Obama has made sweeping decisions only to reveal that he really had not thought through the consequences of those decisions. One example he gave is that of announcing the closing of the Guantanamo Bay Terrorist Prison facility within a year without even knowing what he plans to do with the terror suspects being held there!

Rove also flatly states he believes it is entirely possible for Republicans to rebuild a winning electoral majority within 4-8 years, and he discusses the special relationship between Great Britain and the United States. . . . . . (Watch Video)

I'd love to know how.

I wonder if he bases that statement on Michael Steele’s comments of Rush Limbaugh’s speech to CPAC.

So would I. With what? Another McCain replay?

Rove hasn’t figured out that the MSM makes Presidents and Congressional majorities anymore. And with ACORN getting unlimited funding through Porkulus, fair elections will be a thing of the past. The Repubs only hope is to chuck the current cast of clowns and embrace the Libertarian agenda and bringing it mainstream. The productive, non-socialist, youth vote is Libertarian.

I agree. I am so tired of these silly republican operatives touting their latest prophecy about the state of the party. Who gives a rip.

I worked as a "republican" in the House for a couple of different Members of Congress back in the 80's and in reflection, they're mostly a bunch of egotistical, power loving hacks, just like the democrats. If we don't move this ideological battle to the states, the Union, as we know it, doesn't have 4-8 years ROVE!!!!!

4 years is too late. We need to take back the House in 2010 (at the very least) since they control the purse strings.

It is doable. But at present, it won’t happen because of the GOP. it will happen because the Democrats are taking too much away from everyone. With Steele at the helm, the GOP will likely take the next step from Republicans backing into power again to taking it forcefully.

Little history folks; guess who ran the House from 1954-1995 (a short 41 YEARS!). Hint, the democrats. During the same period, 1954-1995, the democrats held the Senate 80.95% of the time, often with very and I mean VERY wide margins.

So, for those of you who think it’s just a matter of “getting the Congress back” when the democrats crank up the treasury printing presses, you’d better think again. The republican party may be back in the wilderness for decades.

Personally, I don’t think we’re going to get the House back anytime soon and the Senate looks just a daunting. Why? Let’s just say we have a little less than inspiring leadership at the helm right now.

Do you get the sense that Rove is actually clueless and yet wants to remain relevant? I really wonder if these guys actually get it. What? More Bob Dole? That's the answer? Harriet Meiers? Expand Medicare again? McCain?

Sadly, these guys still don't seem to understand that the MSM is corrupt and that RINOs stand no chance. But hey, these guys sure know how to market themselves as Svengalis.

No kidding, RINOs who happily shed themselves of conservatives at every opportunity.

I loved during Rush's speech when he told everyone that people who succeed are not the enemy.

This class warfare is nonsense.

Barely a month in to his presidency and he’s sitting at 4 trillion? Yeah, if there’s any hopey-changey to be had, it had better be here in 2 years.

You are incorrect.

The Republicans are beyond hope. They have sullied themselves, and can not be trusted any longer.

To embrace pure Libertarianism is to lose. The Christians, the largest faction of the Conservative votes will not go there. What is desperately needed is to burn down the "big tent" of the NeoCons and return with real commitment to the Reagan Coalition. That will attract the Libertarias, and retain the Christian Right as well. It is the only way Conservatism has risen to real power in 30 years.

Unless Obama screws up massively (remember, Clinton was embattled but won a 2nd term anyway),

and

Unless the GOP nominates an inspiring candidate, and not another old white guy with white hair (remember Dole in 96 and McCain in 08),

the GOP isn’t going to win.

The RNC is still pushing big-tent-ism and leaning moderately left. That is not a winning strategy. It didn’t win in 06. It didn’t win in 08. It won’t win in 10 or 12.

The GOP brand it severely tarnished as a result of their squandered leadership, ethics problems, and open checkbook spending of the last decade. If they give the same old candidates with the same old messages and the same old policies, they are going to get the same results — losses.

Yes, Rove, like Steele is just a republican operative hack. Steele ran with Bob Ehrlich in Maryland (a “moderate” read pro-choice candidate)

People better move away from the republican party at the national level, it's not where the action is going to be. Eventually, as this worsens, States are going to be the battlefield and you stand a much greater opportunity to influence there than at the federal level.

I have such disdain for most of them at the RNC and the RNCC. They're no different than the democrats and do NOT deserve trust. It will take them years if not decades to re-earn that.

I agree and I am tired of success being labled “greed” unless your name is Oprah or a “ambulance chasing” lawyer named Edwards.

I watched our great “rising star” Eric Cantor act like a squish with Hannity and Stephanopolous this week.

With weak wimpy leaders like him and Steele, we’re a long long way from regaining power.
