GOP Chairman Michael Steele Calls Limbaugh Comments "Incendiary and Ugly" - Video 2/28/09

Here is video of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele talking with CNN's D.L. Hughley last night, and calling comments made by Rush Limbaugh during his speech to CPAC "incendiary and ugly." Steele said Limbaugh is not the de facto leader of the Republican Party, and that he is an "entertainter."

This is exactly the point Rush Limbaugh was trying to make in his speech. Republicans need to stop worrying about what the D.L. Hughley's think! They will never like conservatives or Republicans, because they are liberals! Steele should not have disavowed, in effect, what Rush said. He should have hammered home the core principles set forth by Limbaugh in his speech. . . . . (Watch Video)

This is similar to Rush’s statements during the campaign about having to “drag McCain over the finish line”. Steele didn’t support Rush in front of this “entertainer” Hughley, but he wasn’t exactly bashing Rush as the title suggests. He was cornered about who is the head of the GOP. As chairman, what do we expect Steele to say?

As Rush stated in the speech, this is tough going. It’s about conservative vs. liberal philosophy and if we are ever going to get anywhere we can’t give up on Steele yet. Steele is still soft under pressure, and if you or I were black in a country where blacks voted 96% for Obama, we may be defensive in a scenario like Steele was in during this interview.

Very frustrating I agree, but we have to keep the pressure on Steele behind the scenes, and encourage him publicly. I have heard him on Fox (very different from being on CNN for sure), and Steele has been good on opposing the liberal agenda. We have some work to do effectively stand up in all forums.

Okay. This leaves no doubt that Steele is a dangerous RINO.

Steele represents the majority opinion amongst Republicans. Unfortunately Conservatives are the RINOs in the increasingly socialist OP(formerly the GOP).

Steele, you’re a GD idiot. How’s that for incendiary and ugly? Get used to being in the minority, pal...

This is the type of capitulating attitude that has existed in the Republican party for years and is the reason the socialists have gained power.

I so agree. I look at the Republican party as weakened because they’re too afraid or lazy to stand up, and they have bowed at the altar of bipartisanship. I liken the parties to be similar to the nations mentioned in Kipling’s poem. The Republicans have paid the “Dane Geld” and have allowed the Dems to thrive.

Rudyard Kipling: Dane Geld

It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
To call upon a neighbour and to say: —
“We invaded you last night—we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away.”

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you’ve only to pay ‘em the Dane-geld
And then you’ll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say: —
“Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away.”

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say: —

“We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that pays it is lost!”

Look at the dynamics here.

Rush had several main cable networks covering his entire speech, perhaps 40 million people watching total. Steele goes on CNN and sticks a knife in Rush’s back for what ever reason to an audience of around 4 or 5 million. (If that)

Steele has only alienated himself from the conservative base and now has a huge task of trying to undo the label he just stamped himself with.

Therefore, the damage was done mostly to himself. While in regards to Rush, more Liberals were forced to see Rush as he truly is, which defeats their bias towards him. Many must have realized that he actually makes sense, which opens the door for them to listen to him more often.

Either Steele is jealous of Rush because he cannot achieve the same folk status that Rush has, or he is grossly out of touch with his base. It is probably a combination of both.

If you suffer from ADD you cannot listen to Rush. He moves to fast for the ADD’s to keep up. Always cracks me up when some say “I heard Rush say this...” which is something I know cannot be true. The just only register every third word.

My email to Steele:

"I was just wondering if Mr. Steele actually listened to Rush's speech yesterday. I did and found it be be funny, warm, and inspirational. I did not hear any ugly or hateful comments in the entire speech, and his poking fun at Joe Biden was long overdue.

I am from Maryland and have been a big supporter of Mr. Steele from his run as LT Gov to his senate run. I started having doubts when he supported Wayne Gilchrist over Harris in the congressional primary. Now I am done, done, done!

I am through with the national Republican party. I will only support individuals who actually care about fiscal responsibility and the hope of conservatism.

You will never succeed in turning on those who have been the biggest supporters of conservative principles.

I am truly disappointed. I had such high hopes."

Steele has turned out to be another pubby with no cajones.

“Conservatives are the RINO’s”?

How do you figure this?

RINO implies the minority. Unfortunately Conservatives are the minority in the Republican party.

I would say that hugley is insignificant.

Steele gave it a go for a bit but he sure should have stopped talking sooner.

Want to write Steele... http://www.rnc.org

I don’t contribute anymore to the RNC.

As Rush has said, we won’t EVER win by trying to out-Liberal the Liberals. In any sane universe, we shouldn’t even be TRYING.

So Dear Mr. Steele, go perform an unnatural act upon yourself. YOU’RE the one who’s not in touch. Not only that, you’re acting against the interests of our party, because if we end up with another pathetic RINO candidate like John McCain we will NEVER, EVER win — and isn’t that YOUR JOB? To actually see that we WIN Something?

Didn’t Rush defend Steele and attack Schumer when they stole his SS# and credit info. He got the word out and backed up Steele.

Over a hundred comments on FR so far and I’ve yet to find ONE supporting Steele. Gee....I wonder if this MEANS anything? That is, other than McCain coming to Steeles rescue on Monday.
