The dresses just get worse. Oh well it beats her earlier UPS delivery guy outfit.

Oh sweet merciful heaven wth is that???

I said this on another thread, I am about Michelle’s same height and cannot wear most “off the rack” dresses because the waist ends up being about 2-3 inches too high- exactly like Michelle’s dress in the that picture. It emphasizes any extra weight in your lower half. She really should go for skirts and blouses or have her dresses custom made.

That pattern is overwhelming, but if it were a skirt at her natural waist with a black or pink tailored blouse tucked in (sort of a retro 50’s look) it would look better.

She's more than slightly bowlegged.

Seriously, Michelle should stop dressing up like a 'white" person. She's not white. She should be proud of her roots and go native.

It's obvious by the white bedspread that Michelle does not know how to wear a gown with a train. Stupid Michelle does not know that one is supposed to pick up the tail when dancing.

I'm looking forward to seeing her dress up like a flaminco dancer. Holay!

a little inner beauty would have gone a long way towards improving it.

Perfect statement. Inner beauty is an expression of Soul, which can't be faked and doesn't need dressing up. Laura looks beautiful in everything because she always expresses Love.

I don't see that quality in this First Female.

Oh my. She didn’t pick up her train while she was dancing?

This is a very rude thread.

On the contrary. The First Lady represents the U.S. and the President on the world stage. She needs to look like the wife of the President of the United States. Her appearance alone should command the respect and attention of every occupant in every room she enters. Nobody should look better than she. In a crowd of women, there should be no doubt as to the identity of the First Lady.

Michelle Obama has every fashion resource in the world at her fingertips. That she fails to make use of them leads me to believe that she is either oblivious or too arrogant to take the advice of others. Neither of which is a particularly welcome character trait in any person, let alone the First Lady.

I happen to like the image of the First Lady as a polished, competent woman. A wise and strong confidante to her husband. In no way does Mrs. Obama look the part.

If she's having lunch at school with the girls, attending a soccer match, or hanging out at Camp David for the weekend, then she can wear J Crew off the rack.

As for the dress in question. The cut of it is identical to those worn by Julie Andrews as Maria the governess in The Sound of Music.

"...a shawl that looks like she sprayed those plastic soda can carriers black and is wearing them around her neck."

It looks oddly beard-like too, doesn't it.

"She has to stand in a strange bowlegged pose, when next to Obama, so as to appear shorter than him, she rarely smiles, walks and moves in a manner that looks like a teenage girl walking in heels for the first time. I’m not trying to be critical of her - it is just factually incorrect to compare her to Jackie-O..."

Just for the record, Jackie was bowlegged as well. I remember very, very well watching her walk toward the tv camera in the intro to the tv special she did while JFK was president about the history of the White House.

I was in my early teen years, and couldn't believe my eyes that she was so obviously bowlegged. I was surprised due to the endless press drooling about every facet of her being. Actually worse than what Michelle has gotten so far probably because the public was more PR-naive than they are today. You actually have to hear a tape of her talking during the period to believe the ridiculous breathy, whispery, baby-talk speech she affected. It was SO phony and so annoying, and was even paradied some, an exception to the glorification she ordinarily received from the press. In later years, she didn't talk a thing like that.

Anyway, about the bowlegged tv special appearance, I remember remarking on it to my Mom and sister as Jackie approached the camera, and they said, "yeah, she really is. Jackie was apparently usually very careful about how she stood when she was in public so it didn't show all the time by any means. But after the WH years, she mostly wore slacks (avoiding the dreaded camel-toe, I believe).

LOL! Exactly. I first heard a tape of Jackie O when she was in the whitehouse ten or so years ago and was stunned. She sounded like Marilyn Monroe, and/or other sex kittens from that time, NOT like a firstlady.
