To my Conservative Friends:

Most of you who read my articles know I am not a big TV or movie guy because the dim-bulbs that make this crap are so slanted to the left I wind up getting so pissed off at the hidden, oh-so subtle agenda, I can't enjoy the movie... I usually get so aggravated and everyone tells me I am overreacting... I say to them - "If I don't overreact, nobody will act at all!!!!"

Despite that, my son and I went to check out the premiere of the re-make of the 1951 film, The Day the Earth Stood Still. We both love action-packed movies and especially films about aliens from outer space, so we gave it a try. I purchased tickets online so I would not have to wait on line with the masses and have to listen to ill-mannered teenage punks carry on trying to impress each other while making themselves look like idiots....

We get there approximately 1/2 hr prior to show time and buy our $4 small soda and $5.00 box of milk-duds. I could buy a Fillet Mignon at the butcher shop for that!!! We then give our tickets to the troll-like mutant who rips them in half - no thank you - no enjoy the show - I had to ask her which theater the show was in!!!! She barely manages a grunt that sounded like a seven, to which I said, "pardon me?" I don't think she understood what that meant! I said louder, "Excuse me Miss, which theater?" She blurted 7 and pointed her chubby, cheese-doodle stained index finger to theater #7....

We made our way to the theater and....

The original is a classic. Well thought out, with the alien being rational as one would expect from a more advanced culture.

The trailers for the remake told me they pee’d all over the original concept for the movie and ruined it. I will not watch this thing in any venue.

In the original movie Klaatu's message was "Do whatever you want on Earth, but do not bring your wars into our space or you will be destroyed". Why did Klaatu come to Earth in this movie? Was it essentially "Don't destroy the Earth or we'll destroy it ourselves"?

As another poster put it: Not only does Klaatu realize we can change at the end, he also makes sure we do it 1700s pre Indusrial Revolution style.....an Eco-terrorists wet dream. Was there any mention that the carrying capacity of 1700s agriculture was considerably less than 6 billion people and that maybe 5 billion would have to starve to death, after cutting down every tree in the world for farm land in an attempt to feed them? How about rampant diseases for the rest because there were very few 1700s antibiotics, vaccinations or distribution of clean water in the cities?

Well, Tokyo has been devestated so many times in the movies, it was time for a new stomping grounds?

Godzilla(1998)and of course, King Kong.

“I’ve never had a problem with youth questioning authority”

A time and place for everything. Being a kid is not about total freedom. It’s gaining the wisdom of knowing when to question.

Constant, confrontational questioning would earn my kids a warm backside.

You are correct, and I should have added that caveat.

When you look at that cool movie poster of the big alien robot high above the earth,, looking down spewing death beam from its eye,,,, don’t think about the carbon footprint of the ray beam,,, don’t wonder how large the factory was to have assembled such a massive technological marvel,, or the resources used to produce the energy to build such a thing,, or the resources used for the journey to earth,,, no,,, don’t let your mind wonder to thoughts such as that,,, just accept the thought that your SUV is evil,,, but the big alien robot spewing propaganda and death is good.

I don’t mind the movie trailers or even the popcorn ads. But it really annoys me when they put in commercials for unrelated products. I REALLY don’t want to pay to see commercials!

Every time you hear a liberal spouting off about population being out of control, or too much to sustain, ask them why others must make the sacrifice they are unwilling to make themselves. Ask them, why, if they are so concerned about over-population, are they still on the sunny side of the dirt.

Exactly.

Questioning “authority” often marks the passage to adulthood.
True questining, that is.

The moment a person realizes that something may not be right and that “authority” might be wrong, incompetent or just malevolent, is the point where a person demonstrates independent thinking.

We often mark that as one of the hallmarks of a sentient being. So, in a way, the child becomes a true person and not a mimicing lifeform.

However, that’s not to be confused with the kind of “questioning” that’s promoted by MTV and the media. When somebody has to tell you that somethings wrong, and induce you to “question” things you haven’t thought out for yourself, it’s the mark of the unevolved mind.

I love the premise.
A non-native species comes to earth and declares that humans, born and evolved on this planet, are an invasive species.

Wonderful.

Some people really have a guilt complex about being at the top of the food chain.

The movie trailers are the best part. You can see the best parts of most movies from the trailers and skip the movie itself. Don’t Mess With The Zohan was far much funnier in the previews than the actual movie itself was.

As I figured, it’s a modern “remake”...which means basically the only thing they’ve kept from the original is the character’s names...

Thanks for the warning.

We were told by supposedly a former hippie (wife of a good conservative) that this was good remake of the old classic.

It is not the first time she has tried to miss lead about liberal movies.

No doubt about that.

My original comment left out an important detail. Knowing when it is appropriate to question authority. You, and brownsfan have covered it nicely for me.

I haven’t seen the movie and probably won’t, but it sounds like an analogy to what we see today around the Country. The best and the brightest living in the more “advanced” wealthy areas of the country like the upper eastside of NYC, SF, LA/Malibu/Hollywood, DC etc. come into little towns around the country and tell them they can’t develop their resources,i.e. timber, coal, oil reserves because it will despoil Gaia. They tell them to do away with all their industrial production and good paying jobs and live of tourism dollars the elite spend when then come to visit the pristine wilderness areas.

Globally the international Greens do the same things to starving, poor areas of Africa, Asia and South America.

I’ll take the original movie; flying plate, rubber-skinned robot suppodsedly made from a metal harder than diamonds, cheesy military dialogue, etc, etc

I'm a conservative heterosexual male who loves movies? This is GOPMike's idea for a movie review?

What was the plot summary? How did the director interpret a horrible B-movie from the 1950s? What kind of character development was employed? Was the movie conflict besides your problems with movie previews and concession prices? What kind of camera work was employed? How did the characters interact with one another? How did the actors convey their parts honestly? How were the special effects? Was there resolution? What kind of humor, if any, was employed: Light/Dark?

AND GOOD GOD MAN, did Jennifer Connelly have any nude scenes???
