...The CPSIA aims to set what would be the most stringent guidelines worldwide for childrens products containing lead and phthalates (a chemical used in some vinyl products). Due to largely go into effect February 10th, 2009, anything at all intended for children ages 12 and under must meet these guidelines with certifications of doing so from a CPSC accredited laboratory.
As a father of two, this sounds great! In fact, I was so concerned about lead contamination in toys that I started my own company making unfinished wooden toys. But as a manufacturer who must comply with this law, Ive learned its not as pretty a picture as it might seem...

This very real threat to businesses big and small is compliments of a 400+ to 1 vote for legislation (The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) to destroy what's left of the economy in this country...on February 10, 2009. This means higher prices for everyone, less money to spread around, business layoffs, closings and unemployment.

If it is of any consolation, there are about 200 countries in the world where you can still put lead in things, and pay a little bit of money to a gov/’t inspector and put CONTAINS NO LEAD label on it to be sold in the USA.
I guess any household item, including furniture, wood trim, etc are included too?
