National Bankruptcy Day (This needs ACTION!)
Greco Woodworking's Weblog ^ | 12/5/08 | John Greco

...The CPSIA aims to set what would be the most stringent guidelines worldwide for children’s products containing lead and phthalates (a chemical used in some vinyl products). Due to largely go into effect February 10th, 2009, anything at all intended for children ages 12 and under must meet these guidelines with certifications of doing so from a CPSC accredited laboratory.

As a father of two, this sounds great! In fact, I was so concerned about lead contamination in toys that I started my own company making unfinished wooden toys. But as a manufacturer who must comply with this law, I’ve learned it’s not as pretty a picture as it might seem...

First post, hope it turns out OK. I got permission from John to post here, and he's laying it out pretty well from a small business point of view. Basically he would have to shut his doors on February 10. If he has any inventory it will have to go to the dump because you can't sell existing inventory, either, unless it's tested for lead.

This very real threat to businesses big and small is compliments of a 400+ to 1 vote for legislation (The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) to destroy what's left of the economy in this country...on February 10, 2009. This means higher prices for everyone, less money to spread around, business layoffs, closings and unemployment.

Visit National Bankruptcy Day also for more information.

If it is of any consolation, there are about 200 countries in the world where you can still put lead in things, and pay a little bit of money to a gov/’t inspector and put CONTAINS NO LEAD label on it to be sold in the USA.

And yet poison that killed lots of pets is still allowed in our baby formula.

Yep, what’s up is up and what’s down is down.

It's rumored that on page 102 of this massive government scam is a clause that ANYthing manufactured will have to be tested. But we already know that kids' products are only the beginning. Amazon.com has already sent a heads up to their publishers about this:

"If you are like me- if you want to see SOME sort of legislation, but not one that makes businesses nationwide go bankrupt,...."

This is the mentality that put this country where it is today, "Big government needs to do something about _____(fill in the blank), so long as it doesn't hurt me.", failing to realize that any law written is only a comma or an addendum away from effecting everyone.

Read the Constitution, learn it and repeat it at every opportunity. It isn't the government's responsiblity.
