Abraham Lincoln was not a “Founder”

He may be looked on as a “preserver”, but all the “Founders”
were long dead before his time.

Your other points are valid though.

Probably just as well. I'm sure they would have been alternately fascinated and appalled at the state of the Union in 1861. And by the outcome of the War also... I don't doubt they would have had a lot of advice for President Lincoln.

Interesting topic for speculation.

‘Abraham Lincoln was not a “Founder”’

Lincoln was one of the founders of the Reupublican Party in 1854, which is what the author probably meant.

The Republican Party was established for the purpose of abolishing slavery and returning to the principles the country was founded on (they used The Declaration of Independence as their guide, Lincoln called it their central idea.)

Lincoln was a proponent of individual rights and limited government. Obama is no Lincoln.

The author means a founder of the GOP which technically he wasn’t.

I am certainly aware that Lincoln was not a founding father - of this country. That would be pretty obvious. The “Ours” to which I was referring was the Republican Party. I was calling him a “founder” of the Republican Party. It was nothing before Lincoln. We are called “the Party of Lincoln.”

I never stopped to think when I formed that title that anyone would think I was contending Lincoln was a founding FATHER of the United States. Thanks for pointing that out.
