FR & McCain: What Happened? (Vanity)
Free Republic | Senor Zorro

Posted on 08/29/2008 8:51:20 AM PDT by Señor Zorro

August is rolling over into September and, before we know it, election day will be upon us. Perhaps it is merely my impression, but most here on FR seem to have settled down with the idea of John McCain both as the Republican nominee (which he is certain to be, regardless) and, even, as President of the United States. The initial candidate debate has all but faded and virtually all here have gelled back into the Republican camp instead of the "Republicans for Romney", "Republicans for Giuliani", "Republicans for Hunter", etc. ad nauseum, ad infinitum. No doubt, this is precisely what the party dons are happy to see: lively debate during the primaries and then the base falls lockstep in line with the leadership in their infinite wisdom.

And it makes me feel like I am in the Twilight Zone. Compare the tenor of the threads, between McCain's maverick moments during Bush's presidency, especially the "Gang of 14" incident, and now. Does anyone remember the hate for "The Maverick"? The "Traitor"? Two years ago, how many here would have voted for McCain. The reason for the change, most would say, is political pragmatism. We gotta stop Obama. How many here would pick Gerald Ford over Ronald Reagan today? Not many, I should think. Yet, when Carter won the general election, we, as a nation, got Reagan after Carter managed to spend four years highlighting everything that is wrong with liberalism. It is easy to say that we will take McCain so that we will not have Obama. It is giving up the long term good to maybe (I stress maybe; the winner of this contest will be far from certain) prevent a present evil. A lesser evil. That is precious little consolation.

As soon as that line is crossed, there will be no chance left of the Republican party going back. They know that the faithful will plod along, voting Republican though the Republican party has long since turned its back on their principles.

I will vote third party--not because I think that the candidate will win (numerically, I think it is all but impossible, though God works miracles in his own time). Nor because I think the candidate is ideal (if that were the standard, not a single human being could be elected to any office), but because I will not cross this line in the sand.

As another Freeper said this past week, “Enjoy your insignificance.” :)

Thanks for being honest. You’ll be hanging separately, but I doubt that will be of any consolation to your family. *SMIRK*

Aren’t we LUCKY that our forefathers did the actual HARD WORK of forming our country? They literally DID stick their necks out, and now Freepers like you have the LUXURY of whining to your fellow Conservatives in such a public way, without risk of even breaking a fingernail! ;)

I was for Fred Thompson, then ended up voting for John McCain in my State primary after I did my homework. This woman doesn’t do ANYTHING on feeeeeeeelings alone; I know, it’s VERY confusing to the men that work for me, LOL!

Sarah Palin is frosting on the cake. Hell, if it could be Palin/Mccain, my political life would PERFECT. :)

FR & McCain: What Happened?

McCain won the election today.

He brought conservatives on board and helped peel off more independents and Hillary voters.

My rant was posted after yours, but the sentiments are exactly the same. These “I’ll Sit On My Hands” p*ssies (and they’re always MEN...Grrrr!) are starting to p*ss me off.

I despise McCain but I’m voting for him and now that he picked Palin, I’m happily voting for him.

As stated on another thread.

We have three choices; McCain, Obama or Irrelevance.

I will vote third party...

Get back to us when you've helped President Obama to make even
more history.
As in appointing the first husband-and-wife team as justices on
The Supreme Court of The United States of America.

(Yes, that would be Bill and Hillary! There's a reason they folded
like cheap suitcases in Denver and kissed Obama's derriere.)

I’m voting 3rd Party for the first time in my life.
I wish McLame would just quit - I wish my party hadn’t been hi-jacked by a bunch of liberals. God help us all - God help America. People keep telling me I have to vote for McLame b/c of Judges - well to those I say - you are in DENIAL he won’t appoint “conservative” judges, people are just fooling themselves, McLame doesn’t give a flying __-__ about conservatives - that’s why he selected Palin as a “peace” offering thinking conservatives will be able to “justify” their vote. Sorry McLame - I’m not falling for it. RIP GOP. :( - I’d like to take bets as to whether BUSH pardons the two political prisoners in Texas ... I bet our border patrol men are still in Prison Jan 21, 2009 - I wonder how Bush will explain that to the Almighty?

I’m not positive, but I thought I saw a thread where the climate change platform was dropped. Just today I think.

As for the Republican party, the Party is not moving in the conservative direction. Things change. We also don't toss virgins into volcanos anymore.

Your argument is as slimy and nonsensical as that of the liberals that have infested mainline Christian denominations and tried to convince millions that the Bible is outdated and that we don't need God any more.

Are you a closet liberal by any chance?

I wish McLame would just quit - I wish my party hadn’t been hi-jacked by a bunch of liberals. God help us all - God help America.

The worst part is that many of them are here masquerading as conservatives and crowing about McCain, night and day.

If you buy their arguments, you will be convinced that conservative principles don't matter any more or...are even outdated and unsuitable for our twenty-first century world. Nevermind the fact that the liberals who infiltrated and now utterly infest mainline Christian denominations such as The Episcopal Church used the exact same arguments about The Bible and God and the exact same tactics against dissenters in their hostile takeover!

One need only look at such Christian denominations to see the future of what's left of our Republic under McCain and his handlers...it's just so sad that so many are disoriented and scared of the bogeyman Obama that they are willing to give up their souls to the RINOs for a little temporary perceived safety.

When—not if—this great experiment in liberty and self-government goes out, it will not be with a bang in the middle of the day but rather a whimper and a sigh in the dead of night, strangled by the darkness of control and the hands of Big Government.

We got hosed. Open primaries is a bad idea and needs to be fixed! No more Dems and Indies picking our candidates!

That being said, I guess we have to hold our noses and vote for McCain or vote for Obama and open our wallets.

I think more and more of us are realizing that yes, McCain has issues, but that the alternative of an Obama presidency (and worst case scenario with a filibuster proof democrat Congress) would be desastrous for the country. So voting 3rd party, or not at all equals voting for B. Hussain Obama. And to give Mac his props, he seems to have moved towards a more conservative position, certainly with his running mate pick.

On a side note: It’s one thing to say let them screw up things so we can take back Congress and the White House in four years; the problem with that is the amount of damage that they can accomplish in that time and it will be permanent. Once government has created a program, especially one people are supposedly paying into (e.g., social security), it can never be un-done. There’s no CTRL-Z (Mac Option Z?) on a social health care program, for example.

Would I have preferred a more conservative choice for President? Yes. Will I take McCain over Obama? Abso-freaking-lutely.

(Way more comfortable with Palin being a heartbeat away from the Presidency than Obama being the President!)

So was I. We lost. I got over it. I don’t think the country will get over Obama.

This is absolutely freaking unbelievable.

Michelle Malkin, one of my all time FAVORITES in Conservatives, who wrote a GREAT BOOK on the Dangers of Ilegal Immigration, one of the strongest voices in this movement, and one who CONSTANTLY exposed John McCain for his Shamnesty, the whole Juan Hernandez connection (hellloooo? he is STILL there, Mich! He will RUIN this country as Special Assistant to the President on Immigration Affairs), is today running BANNER McCAIN ADs on her website. She is supporting John McCain for President of the United States, a sworn enemy of everything she stood for on Immigration...and he has not changed a bit (we heard him at La Raza).

Michelle Malkin has lost a lot of respect in my book. The conservative movement is being bought off and I never thought I would put Michelle in that crowd but I have to and I spit on her new found position of sucking up to and joining the McShamnesty for President bandwagon.
