Top Ten Rock & Roll Bands?

Posted on 07/27/2008 3:26:41 PM PDT by Bobarian

Okay, FRiends. It's a lazy Sunday afternoon and I need a distraction from Obamamania. Anybody care to debate the top ten rock & roll bands?

Not necessarily personal favorites, but in terms of influence, endurance and popularity.

I think the top four, in no particular order, would have to include:

The Doors
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin

The Ramones are in the top ten. Didn't know much about them until I saw the end of the century recently.

They brought rock back in the 70's and started the punk movement. A shame they never achieved the success they wanted.

Hocus Pocus? C’mon, one-hit wonder, but Focus is a rockin’ tune.

Actually, it's the other way around, isn't it? Hocus Pocus by Focus.

Yes, that was a rocker all right.

Interesting, ‘cause I always got Focus confused with Frankenstein, for some reason.

Not-even-close. Frankenstein was art. Hocus Pocus was schmaltz.

“The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World”
The Rolling Stones

Jagger and Richards both turn 65 this year and they’re still
on tour! All the rest are has-beens.

Good, I’ll agree. But Top Ten material? I’m guessing that if you like Little Feat you’ve gotta love The Grateful Dead.

1968 I think. I saw them in some crappy open field concert about then in Nowhere Texas. Saw them in 1972 or so as openers for YES I think, lots of funny smoke there.
