The Ramones are in the top ten. Didn't know much about them until I saw the end of the century recently.

They brought rock back in the 70's and started the punk movement. A shame they never achieved the success they wanted.

the thing that the music critics never got was that it was socialism and the collectivist thinking that eventually led to Carter's "malaise" speech that started the punk movement. They (and when I say they I actually mean we) were reacting to that anti-individualist fashion trend by being ultra-individualist.

The fact that punk will probably make a come back may be the one good thing about an Obama victory.
