interesting snippet from the article link you posted:

Dunham rode a bus to get to her bank job, and one day had been approached by a man who pressured her for money.

"I gave him a dollar and he kept asking," Obama quoted his grandmother in the book. "If the bus hadn't come, I think he might have hit me over the head."

Obama referred to his grandmother as "Toot" — short for "tutu," the local word for grandparent. He wrote that he offered to drive her to the bank, telling his grandfather, "It's really no big deal."

"It's a big deal to me," Stanley told his grandson. "She's been bothered by men before. You know why she's so scared this time? ... (S)he told me the fella was black."

Obama then wrote, "The words were like a fist in my stomach, and I wobbled to regain my composure. In my steadiest voice, I told him that such an attitude bothered me, too, but assured him that Toot's fears would pass and that we should give her a ride in the meantime."

Although I have read this numerous times before, I am now getting a much clearer picture. Stanley Dunham was a loser who tried to make himself important by associating with marxists - whilst his wife went to work in a bank and probably supported them all. Notice, they had a car but she went by bus.

"She's been bothered by men before. You know why she's so scared this time?

I'll venture that any shenannigans re registration of birth with the Hawaii Health Department were engineered by Stanley Dunham.

I know, he was from the wrong side of the tracks and her parents didn’t approve of him so when they got married they kept it a secret until she graduated later in May of 1940. Stanley Armour Dunham was described by his daughter as “unstable and with an often violent temper...” who also had “crude ham-fisted manners...” and a “desire to obliterate the past...” . He reminds me of a Walter Mitty type with big dreams but few options but it surprises me that he would willingly accept his 17 y o daughter turning up pregnant and do nothing about it which is why I always thought that they sent her away when she was pregnant! Obama Sr’s family in Africa are the ones who spilt the beans about Stanley Dunham threatening to have Sr’s visa revoked and I believe I discovered that at the website Africaonline or EastAfricaOnline will have to check after dinner.
BTW if you are saving pics you better move fast, I was curious about the lei picture and doing a seach the only place so far it is found is an Obama site, but it is now gone!
