Too peaceful is the protest in Tibet?
NYT ^ | Liangliang

Posted on 05/18/2008 4:11:08 AM PDT by nutspea

I do not know if this article suit to be posted here, but I just want to speak something.

Today when I went to NYT and an review attracted my attention, title "fed up with peace" (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/18/opinion/18kristof.html). This article frightens me. There it covered a monk who claimed that he( Dalai Lama) has been too peaceful over the China, and they should take some actions more violent, especially when he is gone. It depicts that this impatience seems widespread among young Tibetans , and remarks that the Dalai Lama should return Tibet as a spiritual leader and own more rights. Most important, it also observes, that China government should stop sending Han migrants to all Tibetan areas, to preserve their Tibetan character.

After finished reading I think there is a need to leave comments. To prevent wasting the time, I just want to ask the author one question, that is: You call for more rights to Tibet, but did you ever ask yourself such a question that to whom is this freedom belong? To judge the affairs in Tibet one must consult the history instead of vainly murmuring about the present. Don't you think it's weird that in the process of "free Tibet" movement only several monks and oversea persons stand up, instead of masses of Tibetans? After informed yourself with the past history of serfs in Tibet when ruled by these Lamas, could you tell me to whom is this freedom would be given if the Tibet is once again ruled by monks?

About the last remark of migrants, it makes me a little confused that as I can remember American always support culture diversity and communication. One thought in your head and another in mine, but if we make changes there go more than two. The same, the collision of culture will result more thoughts and help both the Han people and Tibetans, isn't it? Does it benifit the Tibetans more by isolating them?

Some of the land was actually bought (especially in the early colonial period). And, yes, the Federal Government did engage in harsh prepression and brutality against the First Americans. The difference, mate, is that the US government passed laws in order to make amends for those sins and recognised them as sins.

"well, we succeed the real estimate from our ancestors."

You're Tibetan?

The pay is the life of soldier that defended Tibet.

Lemme guess. He was defending it from someone who was coming to invade their territory and loot their resources.

BTW,may I ask how much white paid for the land owned by Aboriginal Indian?

It started with some beads. We're up to casinos. Probably not done yet.

your illusion how miserable tibetan live under the rule of Chinese has place an tag of pro-tibetan-independdence on you head .

The best you can do is put a label on me. You have no evidence, you can't answer a direct question, your ethics are the ethics of a barbarian and your metaphors are illogical. So you play character assassination games. Do you get an extra banana when the masters think you said something clever? ;^)

Some reservations make millions on logging and others on cattle ranching.

Very true, that. They also have autonomy that Tibetans can only dream of having.

Oh...please. Stop equating your barbaric regime (the worst in human history along with the muslim caliphates) with civilized nations.

why does such a regime as barbaric as you refered make out economcy miracle?

don’t cheat yourself....if the regime were really so unpopular in CHina, it would had been overthrown for long time.

ordiniary CHinese indeed often complain to CHinese government about lot of problem...unemployment,infaltion,rocketing price of condoes.......but complaint is not equal to overthrowing the regime...

I also visited lots of countries in Southeast Asia. according to my experience, Chinese government is much effiecent and less corrupted than those “democratic government” in southeast Asia.

And that.

Some of our early history was pretty grim, but somehow the idea of a supposedly civilized modern superpower with a military space program, a nuclear Navy, and MIRVed ICBM's doing it doesn't sit quite the same.

I think that is stems from the fact that the US, like many European nations, admitted to committing sins and has shown remorse for doing so. The Chinese government shows no compunction or concern and has no crisis of conscience when embarking on a course of genocide.

I already said that it's true Am. Indians aren't happy about everything that has happened and some still aren't happy with the way things are. But I would be quite surprised if a single one would trade places with a Tibetan. The only people on Indian reservations with guns are Indians and paying hunters.

But Am. Indians do like to party with the Dalai Lama when he's here.
