I suppose it would be unrealistic to expect the DUmmies to realize that a lot of the recent food price increases are caused at least in part by well paid lobbyists working for the ecofreak greenies who they adore. Thanks to legislation which created government subsidies for ethanol production, farmers are switching from planting crops like wheat, soybeans, oats, vegetables, etc, in order to plant corn to be made into ethanol. That ethanol is of course used for motor fuel in place of the petroleum fuels which the lefty greenies passionately hate and blame for mythical global warming.

Corn products such as corn sugar syrup and corn flour were cheap before corn prices went up and are ingredients in many of the foods we buy, and corn is also the primary food for meat animals like cattle, hogs, chickens, etc. But now that corn is in high demand by government subsidized ethanol producers the price has almost tripled in the last 3 years, and other food crops such as wheat, rice, soybeans, vegetables, etc are scarcer and therefore higher priced as well.

IOW we are using our most important food crop to fuel cars and trucks, which naturally creates more demand for corn. Which in turn reduces the production of other food crops and results in higher prices for all food. I hope the DUmmies and their greenie pals enjoy eating canned cat food so they can afford to save the planet by driving ethanol fueled motor scooters.

You are forbidden to look for cantelops at other stores or buy them roadside or at farmer's markets for a buck or less each.

Going to step in it by suggesting that the DUmmies do what I do... grow cantelopes in their own backyard.

I do... along with tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, asparagus, lettuce, potatoes, blueberries, raspberries, etc.

A crappy bagel costs $.69 and a crappier muffin is $1.49 at the supermarket. A 16 oz can of soup is $2.19...for broth and a few pieces of pasta. Brown rice is $1.79 lb and bread and milk are near $4.00.

I know. It's all I can do to keep the pantry stocked with Beluga caviar for the kids' after school snacks. Oh, and just the other day I had to drive the SUV all over Cuyahoga county looking for some white winter truffles and they were $60.00 for an ounce. This is insane; how are we supposed to live?

No, The LEFT would never want to go there -- it is OWNED by that EEEEVIL CORPERATION, Wal*Mart!! :-)

Then they should buy from Costco, a big time supporter of and contributor to Democrats and many far left "causes".

Actually, I think their Moms probably buy their food and clothes while they hunch over their keyboards and bemoan their pitiful financial situations to each other.

wolfgang puck soup is almost always on sale for $1-$1.25/can

You think that's bad, have Wolfgang come over and fix some soup for you. The price of that is unbelievable.

We have a special food deal. On the sly. Can’t go into too much detail but we get over a week’s worth of meat (plus beer, olive oil, laundry detergent, etc.) for just 50 bucks from a “mobile wholesaler.” The meat is usually about a week away from expiration but it comes frozen. Great stuff too. Typically we get a bag of jumbo shrimp as well as lots of chorizos, strip steak, pork chops, chicken, fish, etc.. Usually the beer is a 12 pack of Heineken but this time we got Corona which was a nice break. We also get paper products as well but we are pretty well stocked up on that until late summer.

I count my blessings and am angry on behalf of those whom it really pinches.

Please remember that these are the same DUmmies that start thread after thread about paying the "service" people (ie... cashiers, and baggers) a "living wage"!

They also think that all grocery store employees should be unionized, with full benefits. How do they think that would all be paid for?

They are only allowed to shop at the leftist approved organic food stores like Whole Foods.

BTW, assuming a limited number of acres for planting, if more and more organics are grown and we get the consequent lower yields doesn’t that mean prices go up for ALL foods?

What a bunch of whining, spoiled idiots. They haven’t learned yet that the prices they are paying are for the convenience of being able to walk into a store and obtain food and ripe fruit year round.

If they want lower prices they have to sacrifice the convenience and plan their meals and shopping. Coupons, Costco bulk, day old bread store, Farmers market, Aldi, weekly grocery specials, and buying marked down meat are all part of my routine.

The butcher’s at the high end grocery just down the street mark down the meat that “expires” that day each morning. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s the same as if you bought it yesterday, put it in the fridge and didn’t use it for dinner. I toss it in the freezer and only paid 1/2 price for it.

These whiners are a perfect example of the pussification and spoiled character of Americans that people from other countries often mock.

They are saying that DUmmies are STOOPID! Want to whine to someone? Go whine to your local treehugger environmental activist that actually enjoys watching ALL Americans in pain, both DUmmies and FReepers.
