McCain cuts deal with delegates to hand WV victory to Huckabee

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee enjoys the first victory on Super Tuesday for the Republicans as he takes all 18 delegates in the state of West Virginia, winning 52% of the vote, although rumors abound regarding the McCain campaign's possible instruction to their delegates to switch to his side.

Mitt Romney finished second with 47% of the vote, followed by McCain at 1%.

Rumors are circulating that the McCain campaign instructed their delegates to defect over to Mike Huckabee's side as to avoid a Romney victory. Nationally, McCain is significantly ahead of Huckabee and can afford giving the state's 18 delegates to Huckabee, but certainly not to Romney, who was originally in the lead when polling began in West Virginia by a wide margin and trails McCain nationally by only 17 delegates.

My vote for Huckabee is a vote for Huckabee. But I’ll take McCain over Romney any day.

What I find interesting is that none of the McCain delegates had the spine to stand up to this.....If it were me (and I do not support McCain), no matter who I voted for, I would not have sunk so low as to allow them to alter my vote.....

George Bush I prepared for the suicide.

George Bush II carried it out.

John McCain will be the undertaker.

Kiss the G.O.P. good-bye. It will become an irrelevant pale mirror of the Democrats. Perhaps this is the best. We need a third party anyway.

Um.. how did McCain or Huckabee “take” anyones votes?

People were free to vote however they wanted to. McCain asked his supporters that if he didn’t have enough votes to win..to vote for Huckabee.

No one put a gun to their head to do it...no one threatened to put them in jail if they didnt...

Again.. this is POLITICS...no whining...

If Mitt can’t handle Huck and Yuck, he’ll never handle Syria, Iran and Hammas...

What is there to handle? Two rascals decided to act like the Clintons...what was Romney supposed to do to stop it? If there was no way to stop the two thieves from doing what they did, then there's no right move. At least with Syria there will be right moves and wrong moves.

Uh sorry there Hawkeye. Romney has won 4 states so far. I think he has done pretty well even though he has been double teamed the whole time.

Reno911!

You guys are really becoming whiners! That is how
votes in caucuses work. People try to favor their
candidate.

But alas, Mitt is a smart manager, not a visionary leader.
No power point, no direction.

‘Michael wooten just confirmed with ron pauls people that paul will get three national delegates from huckabee in exchange for throwing his wv support to’
http://twitter.com/scottsaxton/statuses/680965072

Looks like everyone is playing the game and trying to make it to the convention. This is Ultimate Survivor. All 4 Men will be at MN

The next state Paul will team with Romney or something.

Really stupic, stupid move from McCain — yes, if McCain gets the nomination I will vote for him (I’ve had a couple of friends with borderline personality disorder so I guess I can tolerate his personality).

However, for the price of 18 delegates he will infuriate Romney supporters who, yes, they will vote for McCain, but forget about money or volunteer work. This deal was a slap in the face of any chances of party unity in the general election. This deal is akin to a man on his wedding night telling his new wife to wait in the bedroom while he watches in-room porn — and then wonders why she is so pissed off at him for the rest of the honeymoon.

As already reported by Freepers. Apparently the RonPaulists went along with the game, too.

Oh yeah, that will happen, lol. The Mythsters are beside themselves and they need take a step back and relax. The Paulsters aren't about to go along with anything. I remember when the Huckster handed Myth his a$$ in Iowa the Mythsters and others invented the Huckabee is running just to get Rudy elected. Now he is running just to get McCain elected. They are beside themselves.

I’m soured on McCain. I don’t mind the hard core politics of the game. That man is unfit to serve with my vote.

New sources, including an advisor to Gov. Mike Huckabee, have told the Arkansas Times that Huckabee and a senior member of his staff exerted behind-the-scenes influence to bring about the parole of rapist Wayne Dumond, who Missouri authorities say raped and killed a woman there shortly after his parole.

I feel this sort of backroom bargaining is why the Republican Party needs to end the winner-take-all scenario. McCain was only able to pull this trick because 2nd place was equivalent to last place.

How very Christian of Huckabee to accept such a backroom endorsement.

I can now see what Jesus Wept.

Collusion is an agreement, usually secretive, which occurs between two or more persons to deceive, mislead, or defraud others of legal rights, or to obtain an objective forbidden by law typically involving fraud or gaining an unfair advantage.

How in the frakkin hades can the free will of free delegates who freely chose to NOT support Mr Ken Doll Flip Flop Toss a Friend under the Bus at the first sign of trouble Romney, ever be anything BUT the freewill of freemen?

How is their free vote at ALL "FORBIDDEN BY LAW" ??

How is it you want to claim "FRAUD"?

You wonder WHY 60% of us HATE Mitt Romney?

You wonder WHY so many would rather see Hillary than this LIAR?

Because of YOU!

That's right... YOU... we read and see this total whiney snot nosed pretentious CRAP and we do NOT want 4 years of that!

Collusion...? For the luv!!

Look at this bit of childishness from the Romney campaign and tell me why they deserve respect rather than derision at this moment:

CAMPAIGN MANAGER BETH MYERS ON THE WEST VIRGINIA CONVENTION

Boston, MA – Today, Romney for President Campaign Manager Beth Myers issued the following statement regarding the outcome of West Virginia’s Republican Party convention:

“Unfortunately, this is what Senator McCain’s inside Washington ways look like: he cut a backroom deal with the tax-and-spend candidate he thought could best stop Governor Romney’s campaign of conservative change.

“Governor Romney had enough respect for the Republican voters of West Virginia to make an appeal to them about the future of the party based on issues. This is why he led on today’s first ballot. Sadly, Senator McCain cut a Washington backroom deal in a way that once again underscores his legacy of working against Republicans who are interested in championing conservative policies and rebuilding the party.”
