OK, this is the last resort. I've put this off til the last minute, cause I was sure we'd have more people stepping up by now.
Now I'm asking for help.
TankerBabe and I are trying to get some winter gear to a unit in Afghanistan.
We just need a little help.
Do what you can, spread the word.

I just got an email from the 1SG of D Company. He said they only need size medium long johns in his company because they have all lost so much weight. I posted most of his email to me on my blog, www.tankerbabelc985.vox.com, that tells more about the Needs versus Wants of his men (and one woman).

Just got back from K-Mart. They’ve got fleece throws (50X70”) on sale for $6. I’m not sure how Martha Stewart will like her stuff decorating mud huts in Afghanistan, but...
Anyway, Leta says it doesn’t matter what color they are now. Buy, buy, buy!!!

Well, as usual, PleaDeal is correct but...just to explain...they need the dark colored fleece blankets to use when they are out at the observation points and the "any colored" one are being used to line their mud huts for warmth. That's what the email said today.
Another note of interest - two organizations have come on board to help out. One is the AT&T Pioneers. I got a VERY encouraging email from them today but am waiting for confirmation before sharing. And I talked with Kyle at www.keystonesoldiers.com today. She is absolutely, positively on board and is working to see what she can get donated to her organization from the list. Her son is going to be deployed to Afghanistan later this year. She wasn't sure where. I doubt it will be Kunar but who knows. Could be Ghanzi or Helmand which isn't such a cake walk either.
You all are just fantastic. I know now that with everyone pulling together we WILL get these Soldiers geared up for winter.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

The packages rolling in from USCav.
The husband of the local candidate for school board dropped off about 250 blank greeting cards and assorted goodies at the office today.
I picked up a c-note from a young lawyer last night.
I've made a deal with the people in my firm to provide a quart of homemade BBQ sauce for 20 bucks each.
I have 6 people signed up so far.
(Its killer sauce)
The manager of RSC, (a construction equipment rental company), is former Marine.
I met him today and told him the situation.
I think he's onboard.
The site manager for the project I'm on is VMI, was in Taji Iraq as a civilian contractor, worked with the 1st ID, and loves my PW sticker.
He's hardcore. His Dad is retired Marine and VMI.
Thats it from the sunny South.
I really do appreciate all the help.
Ya'll sure did wonders for my spirit.
Thank You

From an email I got from Afghanistan: Friends and Family- If you read below, there is a Nightline edition on Monday the 12th at 2335, or 1135 PM, eastern that will showcase for 40 minutes what it is the men of Battle Company have been through up until last month. We have been fortunate to have several very respectable journalists cover the extraordinary story of these great men I have the chance to serve with.
Battle Hard!

If I can get a hundred or so blankets, tell me how, so I can inform donors, we will get them to the troops. I am sure they will ask me that in tomorrows safety meeting. We have over 700 employees that will attend that meeting tomorrow.
