I'm getting tired of being told I must support a candidate that doesn't have a cold chance in hell of winning his nomination, let alone the Presidency.

“he’s great but he can’t win”

The American idle voters would vote for Sanjaya if he were a republican for no other reason than they know his name.

If the DBM refuses to give us the truth on any multitude of issues, what would possibly make you think they would give any news on Hunter? Is it any wonder, being his stance on all issues that he is battling for a voice in the DBM? I for one, do not look at what the DBM shows as being :the way it is”, nor do I believe what they have said or have to say about Congressmen, or election issues.

They DO NOT want a strong conservative to win our Primary, as they KNOW he would win in as big a landslide as Reagan did. They know a lot of strong conservative voters will not be inspired to get out and vote for any of their top 3. Oh a lot will, but the base will not be inspired, and the DBM doesn’t want them to be. Don’t kid yourself, and do not allow the DBM to determine who the GOP will nominate.

“Hunter has also been the staunchest leader in the fight against abortion. At least nine times Hunter has proposed the Right to Life Act, which would give the unborn 14th amendment protections under the US Constitution and finally treat them as what they are, human beings. Most recently proposed in January 2007, Hunter’s statement accompanying the bill included the following:

“On this anniversary of the Roe v Wade decision, it is important that we reflect on the 38 million abortions that have been performed in this country since the practice was legalized in 1973. This is a national tragedy that must not go unnoticed. This legislation ensures that the unborn are protected from abortion and further provided the same Constitutional protections provided to all Americans. I am proud to once again introduce this important piece of
legislation and I hope my colleagues will join me in support of this effort as they have in the previous Congress.”

Hunter was also instrumental in spearheading the legislation banning Partial Birth Abortion (PBA) and in preventing federal dollars from flowing to any organization that was complicit in abortion services.”

The pro-lifers will SUPPORT him, but first they need to know that he’s PASSIONATELY pro-life. I wrote letters to editors to secular and religious newspapers to do my tiny part in letting pro-lifers know.

Dear gidget7,

“If the DBM refuses to give us the truth on any multitude of issues, what would possibly make you think they would give any news on Hunter?”

I’m not sure that that qualifies as a good argument for supporting Mr. Hunter - that he’s unable to break through a media conspiracy to silence him.

“They DO NOT want a strong conservative to win our Primary, as they KNOW he would win in as big a landslide as Reagan did.”

I don’t think that Mr. Hunter would win in a landslide. I think he could win (and in the unlikely event that he wins the nomination, I think he very well could lose, too), but I don’t really believe that he’s the strongest candidate that the party could nominate.

There may be a reason why he’s served nearly three decades in the House of Representative and yet had very low name recognition. That reason may relate to his ability to win a national campaign.

My own personal judgment - not the media’s judgment - leads me to conclude that Mr. Thompson would be a better candidate and a better president. Not a more conservative president, but one who will be better able to get elected and better able to implement a moderately-conservative agenda once elected.

Hunter did very well at the Iowa debates...when he was given a chance that is! Why do they keep have left-wing MC’s at these!!!!

Because the media is bound and determined to have a liberal candidate (like Rudy McRomney) as the GOP nominee next year.

I’m just not sure the popularity of Thompson can overcome the fact that he appears to be more of the same old thing we’ve been getting from the GOP.

And sadly, he's the only one among the candidates who looks less hale and vigorous than Bob Dole. That's really my major worry about Fred.

Anyone notice an interesting parallel?

When Rudy smacked down Paul for being a cut and runner in a previous debate, the media would not stop chatting about it.

While Hunter smacked down Paul even MORE resoundly (without resorting to fallacy like Rudy did), I’ve heard not a peep.

And on the DBM, you won’t hear a peep. They deliberately ignore Duncan Hunter, have been doing it for years. That tells me he is a threat to their agenda.

The DBM dwells on and reports negative news about conservatives. The fact that the media pays little attention to Duncan Hunter indicates to me how squeekyclean he really is so that is a good thing.

What's with this nomenclature of "moderate conservative?" I wish all you armchair "king-makers" would stop trying to prosoletize your followings like this. If your celebrity guy is currently winning some kind of popularity contest, GREAT! So what are you doin over here trying to disturb the Duncan Hunter caucus?

Many of us "committed conservatives" here in CA have seen this same old CONservative song and dance with our infamous Repellican Governor who artfully dodges any real Republican Primary election and we aren't totally sold on celebrity sorta-CONservatives anymore!!! (I'm really only speaking for myself, however)

Dear SierraWasp,

“What’s with this nomenclature of ‘moderate conservative?’”

What’s with your objection to the term?

Do you think that folks are either liberal or conservative, and there’s nothing in between?

As for the Governor of California, it was pretty clear from the get-go that he was a social liberal. As most social conservatives know, and many other conservatives have figured out, it’s difficult to be both a social liberal and a conservative of any other sort.

As to why I’m over here in a Duncan Hunter thread, well, I was pinged by the keeper of the Duncan Hunter list.

If Hunter supporters don’t want folks on their threads who don’t view Mr. Hunter as our first choice for the nomination, then don’t ping us!

However, I’m pretty sure that the keeper of the list doesn’t object to my “disturbances.” LOL.
