A senior from a Texas high school will not be going to his graduation ceremony after designing 3D levels of his school in a shooting game.

Officers came into his home and reportedly found five swords which they deemed a level 3 terrorist threat. Since then, the unnamed man had been transferred to an "alternate education facility"

I really have to wonder what kind of twisted individual would model a school in a shooter game.

Back in the day I designed D&D campaigns using terrain/featurs adapted directly from 1:10000 Ordnance Survey Maps.

1. It's easier
2. It gives the gane a bssis of "real world featrures possible" 3. It's easier.

So to answer your question: a twisted individual like me,

They say a coward dies a thousand deaths, but they seldom add how many of those deaths are well deserved.

My steel collection would elevate the DEFCON level.

Considering the school is the biggest building teenagers spend their time in, my money's on "a lot."

Me, I’d think that’s a building my child knows well, and it’s fun to figure out what you’d do on familiar terrain in an unfamiliar situation.

How does this run?

Is a level 3 terrorist threat only two below DEFOCON ONE. or is it a fairly low level threat, with eight levels above it?

First, making a detailed map for Counter-Strike is VERY time consuming. It would take dozens of hours even if he were adept at it.

Second, I think it would be cool to find a CS map of buildings I'm familiar with. If I had the time, I would make a CS map of a base I was once assigned to, but only because it has been decommissioned.

Third, I would start worrying only if the kid is collecting MP5's, TMP's, P-90's, M4A1's, SG552's, etc.. or if he starts running with his knife out during P.E. for more speed.

Been there, done that.

Played it after hours (with the bosses permission) on the company network. It was one of the earlier Quakes. Made it 50% bigger so we were like kids in the game. We had it set up so that we had to defend our departments. It was a hoot. Never once even considered carrying it over to real like.

But consider the hindsight if this kid in Texas went nutso in the school with his sword or other weapon.

Oh, come ON. Swords aren't exactly easy to smuggle.

I'd have a hard time thinking my child was thinking about how to kill me.

If your kid has a shooter on the computer, s/he is NOT busting caps in the parents. Zombies, Nazis, zombie Nazis, pirates, terrorists . . . I have never, never seen a game staging kids versus parents, and I've been gaming a long time.

Glad you found your way here. Exactly. And as I said earlier the mall is teh gay. And boringly linear. Also can’t put funny things on the halls and blackboards. I would have done this in my day if we had the tech and laughed my butt off.

"What would YOU think if you found a shooting game on your son's or daughter's computer and your home was the floorplan?"

People have already put 3-D representations of their homes in such games. Many existing schools are depicted in games.

There are already many Islamo-fascist cells in our country. We can assume that jihadi parents and students walk through schools often. No one will know that the schools' plans have been made and stored by terrorists.

We should finish the War on Terror the military way, IMO, but our population does not have the will to do so. Turning our nation into a police state under administration by hysteria intuition won't work, especially not "as seen on TV."

As for the Va. Tech. murders, we didn't incubate such social aberrations during the early 1960s and before. Most kids were nicer to other kids, because they were called "thoughtless pigs" or spanked by adults when they weren't. And we had much more freedom.

Wonder how many Doom3 or Quake4 maps are based on schools and such.

There was one of my high school for the original Doom, 10+ years ago. Lifelike wall texture and everything.

I’m glad he wasn’t arrested. Getting through the last month of school at the “Alternative School” is a bummer to be sure, but it beats getting sucked into a court system that is as broken as it is ineffective.

The school district in this case is another posterchild for “stupidity gone to seed,” and all the ideas districts across America have come up with have only served to hurt kids, not stop psychopaths. So far, all they have managed is window dressing for the parents who should, instead, be gathering at the doors to the School Board with lanterns and pitchforks asking hard questions about where their taxes are going and what qualifies the administrators to make these "hard" choices. Sounds like the hard choice in this case was as easy as falling off a log and took about as many brains.

"I have never, never seen a game staging kids versus parents, and I've been gaming a long time."

This started with a kid and his school plan shooting game and (as we're want to do sometimes) chased a rabbit into our brains ....

I've never seen a game by kids shooting up a school, but I've seen a school shot up by kids that weren't playing ... but had played games.

Good to see you again, Zene.

A twisted individual would model a shooter game based upon the mental hospital he resides in.

In other words, this kid broke no laws, and everyone responsible for harassing him should have their names and faces featured in a shooter game.

no, now it is a guarantee that ALL schools will be mapped into computer games.

Those who can use their brains go into school administration.
